screw gate biners

What's the advantage of driving a stick shift? None I guess, I just like it and it's what I'm used to. Not like the clowns driving teslas on autpilot while the diddle down the road ever crash, right? I do find it's easier to be aware of your surroundings when there is no alternative to distract you from it. I guess some of similar reasoning why I still use all screwgates mostly just old habits and resisistance to change but I think there is something to be said forced intentionality over dumbing ever thing down to the lowest denominator.

Haven't found vtbows older statements yet, but what I could read so far, there is no specific saddlehunting related advantage, that leads to the common preference for the screwers.

My personal preference lies on ball-lock for locking biners and wire-gate for non-locking. No weak stuff.
It's just because I can feel, what kind of biner I grab and how I have to handle it.

Here's a quick list without too much thought.

-Yes, I have had them freeze, get stuck in bad weather
-As they get older and grimy they dont always lock consistently
-They build bad habits(not checking gear)
-many can actually twist lock and pinch the gate, but not be locked...when people dont squeeze check not good
-Its another mechanical thing for people to rely on versus taking the time to be aware of their gear and make sure they are ready to go
-They're a PITA with thick cloves, especially with any loose material as it can get pinched
-Some auto-lockers haver larger knurled gate lock devices/etc. which sometimes makes it harder to clip webbing through(webbing gets stuck on it, etc)

I never had issues yet, but I don‘t wear gloves when climbing.

the petzl screw gates are awesome....i use the spirit and the sm'd.....watch a tour of the company (it's on youtube)....seems very legit

I use an autolock on my linesman rope because it's faster and a screwgate on my tether because I am staring at it the whole hunt and checking it about a dozen times :tearsofjoy:

some use harnesses too and rope and other products

i'd look around petzl's web site

Old autolocks don't close automatically. I have a few, and they don't--screwlocks are locked once screwed.
