Set up time

I'm curious to find out about the time it takes you to get set up, and ready to hunt. From when you arrive at the base of your tree, until you are completely set up, settled in, and ready to hunt. I understand that there will be variables for each hunter depending on your specific set up. I've seen Bobby's video from Aero hunter where he gets set up in about 6 minutes for both going up, and down. I know there's a level of experience there, plus it was a demo video. I don't know if he moves that fast during a hunt. I've found that it has taken anywhere from 15-20 minutes to set up, and get settled. I'm still in a learning curve with my gear, and still making minor changes to technique, and gear placement. I'm using Muddy Pro climbing sticks, a Kestral, and a Predator platform. So how long is it taking you to set up from arrival at the tree, to being ready to hunt?

7-8 min. I would say never over 10 min anymore. Unless I’m extremely close to a bedded deer. I climbed up the back side of a tree with a little 4 pt bedded about 25 yards out last year and it took about 20-25 min to go 20 ft.

I think it depends on where and how you hunt. I hunt travel corridors or destinations most of the time and go up as fast as I can most of the time.

10-15 minutes using 4 LW sticks and a predator platform. That's setting one stick at a time. Once I have all my sticks set I tie off pull rope to bow + bag at bottom of tree, sling predator over shoulder messenger style, then ascend, set platform, install tree strap, install accessory rope/hooks, pull up bow, and -boom- that's huntin' baby!

For me it depends on the tree, climbing method, and the location (like @ImThere mentioned). If I took an average, I'd say 10-15 minutes. Sometimes only 5-8 minutes, but others it might be 20.

I think more helpful question is how long would it take you to setup on a fairly straight, average sized (12" diameter) tree, with less than 3 limbs, at a destination food source where you're not worried too much about bedded deer.

My setup includes: climbing, setting platform, tying tether, setting accessory strap, hanging pack, pulling up bow, knocking an arrow.

In this scenario, I'd say 5-8 minutes with my spurs and Predator Platform.
10-12 with sticks/aiders and Predator Platform
12-15 with Stepp Ladders/aiders and Predator Platform.

A ring style platform would take an extra couple minutes since they're a little more fidgety than the Predator.

No, that’s with my Muddys. I walk up to the tree and start climbing within the first 30 sec. I haven’t been pulling anything up this year.
I simply set my sticks down take the strap off put 2 inside the bridge loops, connect the first stick and up I go.
I really worked on simplifying my set this summer. I tried the moveable aider and swaider and knaider and it just seems simpler to use what I had.

FYI disclaimer I could be underestimating my time also. I have not timed my climb. Other than I know on one hunt I started climbing at 6am and was strapped in by 6:07 I did have my first stick in the tree when I looked at the start time

10-15 if drilling new holes, or using WE steps., less than 5 if I'm hunting a preset. I'v hunted with bolts 100% of the time so far this year...

Took me about an hour last time. Dropped my platform and had to hook it. Didn't feel like getting down and had time to kill. Lol.

15 or so mins normally. Yesterday was closer to 30 mins because I walked 2 miles and had to change my shirt and socks and add layers. Then I dropped my damn release when adding gloves after attaching my bridge

I'm usually sub 15 minutes, even drilling a new tree. I can live with that, considering how light and versatile the drill method is. Stepps are a little quicker, and since I bought sticks to use with my Windwalker, I think I could setup in less than 5 with three of those and a ROS on a good tree.

Up two lw sticks, a WE step, pack set, and hunting 12-15 minutes. Looking forward to predator when it arrives

6 sits into the season, I've taken anywhere from 10-45 minutes, with improvement each time. I use sticks and a movable aider. The key things I'm figuring out are how to pick a good tree and a system for making gear easily accessible without being in the way (aider, tether, ring of steps, gear hangers, bow hoist).

Just climbed my practice tree with 3 sticks, @DaveT1963 aider, and a ROS. From standing with pack on back and bow and sticks in hand to settled in was 7 minutes and 41 seconds.

So I guess there was a little hubris in my 5 minute statement earlier. :) But if you compare that to my bolt climb video, that'll give you a good idea of an average "best case scenario" time. Same tree, same not- quite-20ft mark.

I’m using my back band as a sling and pulling it tight across my shoulder
I carry my sticks in with it then in hook it at the base of tree clip it to my bow sling it over shoulder

My back band has 3 uses so far.

I took a padded carry strap from a range bag. Made some pursik knots and carry my sticks with it and use it for my back band.
