Soooo my wife is looking to upgrade her 20ish yr old singer machine. She just hobby sews a few things a friend of hers recommended a Janome Skyline S5..... once I saw what those cost I wondered if this would be a good opportunity to upgrade to something that would handle some DIY duties as well?? Any input is appreciated

The Janome S5 is $1400. I wouldn't touch it if my wife bought one of those. As soon as it broke I would be in trouble. There are enough Singer 15s and clones around for $20-$50 for DIY on saddles. Converting from light to heavy would be hard as well. Better to have a machine for each job. I use V69 thread to sew my pants and socks. It works good for everything.

Good point. Just don’t sweat coming up w/a multipurpose solution. Just maybe get something that does what I want & then buy more gear & point out how much cheaper it was than that new sewing machine.......

for that kind of money you could get an all singing and dancing juki and have a load of cash left over and both share, regards wayne
