On a lark I decided to see how these 160 grain Treesharks would do shot from one of my compounds. It is the 160 grain glue on variety and I added a 100 grain steel insert to get it up to just about where my regular broadheads are. I was pretty happy to see it flies well out of my Mathews Heli M #2 set at 44 pounds and can make pretty decent apple salad.

Just when the deer thought it was safe to go back in the woods....

Thats quite the chunk of metal there. Like a ninja star on an arrow.
No doubt! It looks weird drawing back the arrow and seeing that giant broadhead on the end. They have a good reputation for putting game down fast. I will probably try this one out from one of my ground sits where I have a better chance of getting a purely broadside or quartering away shot. I think as long as it is razor sharp and I stay away from heavier bones I should be good.

Nice. Ill be watching for a pic of the entrance/exit holes. That things gonna do some damage.

They look like they would be pretty hard to resharpen.
It's definitely a bit different than sharpening a single bevel, that's for sure. There are several really good how too videos online that address sharpening them. I do need to pick up a three-sided diamond rod. I have a fine-toothed chainsaw "rat tail file" that I can use to work out the rough factory grind marks, then go to a round steel, then to ceramic rods, then to the top of the car windshield, then to stropping on blue jeans. I can get them hair popping with a little work.

Simmons broadheads have been killing stuff for almost 50 years. The man who now owns the company and makes them is doing a fantastic job and they are as good and strong as the originals Mr Simmons made way back when. They aren’t afraid of heavy bone and sharpening them is as easy as dragging them through a rada wheel and hitting them with a strop. Minute per head max.

Enjoy em. They are good heads.

Do those wheelie things actually do a good job of sharpening curved blades? I’ve always liked the idea of Simmons, but sharpening those blades have always kept me from taking the leap.

They do a great job of sharpening a lot of stuff, curved and straight edge.

Nothing hard about sharpening a Simmons. It’s just different and a departure from the norm which can seem intimidating. But if you’re into learning new stuff then it’s as complicated as watch one, do one, teach one.

By the wheel you mean the two little metal wheels you run the blade between or a paper wheel with compound on a bench grinder? From the way it sounds you are talking about the two small metal wheels but just wanted to clarify.
