Sharpening Swhackers?

The big rear blades are double sided, so no question there... But the small front blades are only tapered on one side.

Anybody sharpen these? And if so, how do you do it?

Sorry I thought u might be joking ...

I never attempted to sharpen a shwacker.... Are the little front blades even really blades? I always just consider that the lever to open...if u made them super sharp would the broadhead still function the same? I know they definitely aren't sharp from the factory. I think they just want u to buy replacement blades

I don't know, I'm not 100% sure, that's why I asked. They kinda/sorta sharpen one side of the front blades. Is this intended to be a cutting edge? If so, why wouldn't they sharpen both sides? If not, why pseudo-sharpen one side at all?

Maybe they give it that grind to make u believe it's a cutting blade? IMO they aren't designed to do any cutting...just to catch the hide and open the cutting blade.

No need to really sharpen, just make sure there is not a burr in the metal, sharpen larger blade, put some wax between to prevent rattle, add new orthodontics band and you are good to go.

I mean, your talking about a very inexpensive Broadhead that’s not really designed to be resharpened. They are stamped out razor blades that are extremely sharp out the box but probably not the same after one use. The blades are so thin, you can cause the Broadhead to wobble if you sharpen them too much due to uneven blade weight. It’s how these cheap Broadhead companies keep you coming back. A decent fixed blade won’t cost much more than some swackers and they are designed to be resharpened.

Yeah, I've just been buying replacement blades. 80% of the time (not an estimate, 4 out of the 5 deer I've shot this year) the blades are bent anyways. I'd rather have new, straight blades.

How do you get old blades off? I tried the smallest allen wrenches and screw drivers I had and nothing seemed to catch that little bolt.

And.... the dumb question of the day would be... would it be obvious that it is not in good shape?
Not a dumb question. It's a little piece of aluminum that has to be very straight. If it hits something hard, there's a fair chance it's not straight. A quick field spin test (spinning it in your palm and feeling for wobble) is what I usually do. Technically a more technical spin test is technically the right way to do it if you wanna get technical.

I used swackers for a long time, great flying head and took a bunch of deer. Just got tired of buying them haha

If the little point head gets bent, unscrew them and put a new one on. Yet another great feature of a knockoff shwack for $1 and some change each.

Like others have stated the replacement blades are cheap and easy to install.
BUT...
If you did want to resharpen here’s how I have done it:
Grab the wing with hemostats (needle nose pliers can work too) and strop the blade on a strip with chromium oxide, which has a grit of about 30,000. A few passes of that will have it sending arm hair across the room!
The smaller blades will never need to be sharpened for reasons others have mentioned. If the blades are bent then replace them.
