I think I've got one of the first sets with the new cable aider attachments from OOAL. They are awesome. I didnt think I'd like side stacking but it's actually better and easier than the in-line stacking once you put the aiders on. They still stack in line just fine with the bolts, but the actual cables get in the way up top and it takes some effort to get everything situated. Side stacking is a breeze.

You can install them on your own if you want or have Matt install them when he ships the sticks. He has a video on his Facebook showing how to do it. These are going to be awesome. 20210226_193905.jpg20210226_194104.jpg20210226_194202.jpg20210226_194638.jpg

They look good! Matt is a cool guy, good luck with them this season and post your thoughts after you have tried them a few times, soon hopefully, OOAL is a great company.

I agree. I stopped by a couple weeks ago and he showed me around. He's got some cool stuff in the works too.

I went ahead and painted and stealth stripped them. I don't worry too much about camo for deer purposes since that really doesn't matter, but they're way quieter and if I wanna leave my setup and go eat lunch I won't have to worry about people seeing them from a mile away. I didn't disassemble at all.

A couple tips.
  1. Cut the stealth strip to 2.5 inches wide.
  2. Cut a 1x1 or smaller hole where the button is.
  3. Carefully cut thru the *paper only* at the bottom of the hole all the way across the width of the strip. Not at the top of the hole. I learned the hard way.
  4. Put the strip on the front of the stick and the button thru the hole.
  5. Remove the paper from the section above the button/hole and stick the strip to the front side of the stick. It's not easy to get the paper off down around the button but it's possible. It makes it easier if you hold the stick with the front facing the floor. Don't stick all of the strip around the stick yet.
  6. After you remove the top section of paper, remove the bottom section while sticking the strip to the front side.
  7. Wrap the strip from top to bottom all the way around the stick but do not press in inside the fullers yet. Basically only stick the corners and the back where the ends meet.
  8. Take a razor blade corner and slice the strip in the middle of each of the fullers. This way the strip will spread out a little when you stick it and it will be flush against the post all the way around with no air gaps or stretching.
  9. I stripped the back of my steps too and learned the hard way that they won't side stack with two layers of strips if you have the cable aiders attached. Be sure not to strip the part of the steps where the hole is. Only on the bottom step.
Hope that helps someone. 20210303_224114.jpg20210303_224148.jpg20210303_224037.jpg

How's the stand off? I have been eyeing these. But have been waiting for all the "new release stuff" to come out. I like the idea of the cable aider. Does it wander a lot when you set your foot into it? How high did the 3 get you?

I believe Enid, OK. Matt is great. I’ve been trying to do the cable aider setup with these sticks since early January. I think I’ve been Matt’s guinea pig, haha. And after all of this I’m thinking seriously about just using a Sh1kar with a Scout and one sticking. But I really love the FXDs.

^^^Exactly whats up with his small tree stand, is he still making one, Matt is my kind of guy no BS and gimmicks.

I saw it on a FB live event. Love Matt and his products, but the stand doesn't impress me.

I think it weighed 10 lbs or something, who knows, it might be way more affordable than the water-jetted offerings. Could fit the bill for a lot of guys.

Agreed that’s not impressive I thought he was making an ultralight, well see, thanks!

I haven't had any issues with the standoffs with a size 13 boot. Cable aiders took some getting used to. First aider I've ever used. But they are super easy to set your foot into when coming down since they are semi rigid.

The top step on my top stick was 17'. I'm 6'4 and I don't think I could've gone any higher because it's easy to get your foot stuck in the cable when coming down if they're too far apart.
