should we even be using saddles or stands lets be honest

but the idea of being roped in the entire time, always being under tension, so i dont feel like i could fall, works well for me. i can sit in a saddle at 25 ft just fine

I've been bowhunting for 30 some years and have never once tied off to a tree.
This coming year will be my first...

It might to tough to saddle hunt without at least 1 rope around the tree?

I only tried a hangon once, a lot of homemade tree jobs, and a few seasons with a climber. I only wore a harness on the climber when I saw a video of a guy who didnt have enough pressure on the foot section so it gave out and he fell 25ft. Even with a harness I never felt good about it, it wasn't ever taut to where I felt secure. I always feared the fall and just dangling from the side of a tree

My climber spent more time collecting dust than in the woods, and I only hunted the stands a few times over the years, so 95% of my hunting was ground based

got to used to my saddle and dont like hang ons or having my back to the tree especialy in a breez.its undeniable that saddles are safer

When I was in my early 20s I worked for a scrap yard. I got really good really fast with a torch. They put me on a 'road crew' that traveled around doing demolition work. One job up in Corry Pa, there was a big bag house/heat exchanger that was 190 ft. high. I cut all of that thing down and never even heard of harnesses at the time. Walking across beams dragging my torch hose behind me... I loved it!

I look at it like this
I work in a very high hazard field of employment.
For the last 11 years EVERY single day I climb something high enough that if I were to fall I would at they very least be very seriously injured and quite possibly permanently
Often there simply is no practical way to use a FBH even with a retractable lanyard the fact I am 80% of the time in very close proximity motor shifting that is moving while I work at least 90% of the time makes having a FBH W/lanyard on more of a threat to me than falling is
I rely on common sence and using great care when I climb to keep me safe
While hunting from elevated stands I use extreme care always wear a FBH or now a RCH and have a 100% tie off policy while hunting from a stand
I figure if I were to stop hunting from elevated stands due to the risk of falling I should also quit my job
Lastly I have tried bowhunting from the ground enough to know it is much MUCH harder in all aspects than from a stand
In short IMHO and experience it sucks and I won't even consider ever again unless I have zero other choice
I even hate gun hunting from the ground and again only if there is no possibility to put up a stand
Not saying I'm right or anyone else is wrong just my choice and I choose to hunt elevated if at all humanly possible
Others will undoubtedly feel differently and that's just as correct as my thoughts on the matter
