Decided to cut down my 20 year old lonewolfs. 19in from step to step. Why stop there. Let’s make them side stack. Just need to get the nut out the way that goes on the bolt to stop the steps from spinning.
So I decided I’ll use this JB weld stuff that I glass bedded my rifle with. It’s a very strong variety.

I took the nut off and packed the devcon around the bolt on the inside of the tubing. Let it cure over night.

Next day I cut off the back of the bolt flush with a grinder.

Had to re-drill the step bolt holes to clear any of the devcon that was in the way. Then I installed all the hardware. They stack great!

Now how do I wrap my ropes up? It can’t come off the versa button then pass along the side to the standoffs on the back because the rope would be between the sides while side stacking. I have to take them off of the versa button and put it around the stand offs and wrap them. Add a bungee loop on the end to hook around another stand off and we are secure!

Now how do I get them to lock together. Steps are wider than the tubing so I have to flip every other one upside down so it all nest together flush. Tie a bungee loop around a versa button that will stay there permanently and wrap it around all 4 sticks and loop around another versa button.

I wanted to do something similar. Took .5”x1” rectangle (I could only find 6063), some old Muddy steps and a couple of DanO’s stand offs. The tube is 24” end to end. I started with standard bolt up through the stand-off with a thumb screw but will follow another post by threading the stand-off and using a star knob with a bolt. This will eliminate the extra bolt length required to rotate step and stand-off. Mill a couple of slots for the stand-off ears and stagger stack. 6063 does not show much flex and the stick is easily maneuvered. I’ll start a new post once I install the helicoils and knob bolts. 87B6C132-E42F-4009-AEC9-51551A997405.jpegE3347D11-358E-4A2E-97A3-ADF466D35F22.jpeg4B621AA9-CBBB-4736-9B9C-DFB95685A4B1.jpeg

You got a link? I have my own idea but would like to see some others.

I’ll take some more pics of it today I actually just built another set of them, I had sold my first set and bought LWCG hunted with them realized I didn’t like them any better than what I already had that was cheaper so I sold them off and I’m back to modifying originals lol

Good video man, similar to my thoughts. Admittedly I didn't watch the whole thing, but the one thing I would add is a little loc-tite to that allen bolt so it doesn't find a way to back out. Looks and functions great though. Thanks again.

Thanks!.... yep loc tite would be some good insurance..... completely understand I know I can’t watch a 13min video start to finish lol

Do you have a link to the inserts?

Did you sink in the rivnuts and then come in from the top side connecting to the rivnut on the opposite wall of the post?
If you watch his video he is simply drilling out the diameter of the insert and putting it in the hole. The flange remains protruding. He gets over the flange with a few washers. They make nylon washers that are the same thickness as the rivet nut flange if you wanted to only use one washer.
