Simple Rappel Device: Omega Pacific SBG

Thanks John for the response. I was thinking the same thing but was curious what your thoughts would be. I use a latitude Method 1st gen saddle that has the buckle strap not the rope waste belt. The buckle has a piece that swings out and can take a carabiner attached to it. When my SBG arrives I might try attaching it there (all testing from ground as usual) but from other testing I find attaching here then putting my weight on it I get a very tight pull around my saddle while trying to rappel. I will also attach the amsteel bridge I have to the bridge loops via a girth on one side and a carabiner on the other and try it. I feel sure this is how I will run it. I might purchase a web sling to use verses the amsteel if I need a shorter 2nd bridge for my preferred fit. Reading through the thread again where the person tied the device to his leg loop is what made me think of the buckle attachment. But safety is first priority so the 2nd bridge will be the way to go I'm sure.
How I've been rappelling I put the figure 8 on then run a tied hitch to my right side linesman loop as an auto block then squeeze the hitch to let rope through the figure 8. when I lock off to put all my weight on the figure 8 I lock the rope behind the upper circle of the 8 to allow me to pull my platform and steps as I go down. With the SBG I feel i will have a better rappel and lock off while pulling sticks with my hitch above the SBG as shown in the video and the SBG as the friction device below to dictate the speed of the rope feed while rappelling. Just for reference I am 6' at 265 lbs so enough friction for rope speed that I want will be the test for the SBG device.
Thanks for indulging me and my questions/thoughts.
Be safe.

Why not use a single side loop?
Hey Brocky. When I rappel, i dont balance the load between the hitch and the device. I keep the hitch really loose and all of the friction on the device. And I train myself to let go of everything if I ever start to pick up speed. Attaching the device to my hip would have me turned sideways. The other reason is just because I remember reading that the lineman's loops are only supposed to be used for a lineman's belt, and that makes sense to me. Sure, I realize that an experienced climber could probably do it with no problem. But I tried to make no assumptions about the audience and always give them the most conservative recommendation. Cheers

I received my SGB and have tested it. I think I am going to like it for rappelling. This will allow me to use my rappel rope for a Tether then hook in for the rappel without having to put slack in my line for the figure 8 attachment or switch from my tether to rappel line. I made a short bridge as a secondary for attaching the device to my bridge loops out of 1/4" amsteel. Testing went well now come on hunting season after more practice with the SGB device.
