Sit and Drag build- what am I missing?

You need some type of buckle and webbing for a belt to keep it from falling off your waist when there is no tension. You could probably rig something from your other harnesses. I just used a buckle off an old backpack

Yes, it does help. I used a 500lb rated military plastic buckle(cause I don't like anything metal on my harness) with some one inch 1500lb strapping. Here is a pic. Helps to keep it centered when climbing. I loosen it a little when I get to hunting height. It does add another layer of protection also. Got the buckle for like a dollar off amazon.

I've flipped upside down in my modified SitDrags with no issue. The most important thing you can add in my opinion is a belt with a buckle. The belt doesn't do anything for life support, but it keeps it in place and makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE. You should also add an Amsteel bridge. I have some videos about these mods on my youtube channel that will walk you through it. www.youtube.com/g2outdoors

What size of amsteel do you use? I might try it on mine. I currently use predator but amsteel definitely looks lighter.

Can you do that splice on ropes other than Amsteel? What I ordered is listed as 'Aoneky 10 mm Static Outdoor Rock Climbing Rope'

One other thing, what do ya'll recommend for a buckle on the Sit Drag? I looked around and I didnt have much on hand that I can use, I would guess any 1.5" strap and buckle would work

Cobra buckles are pretty common because they have a high safety rating. Most just use a ordinary plastic buckle. Heck the one I used last year I robbed from a strap off of a game camera. The idea is to keep the saddle in place but not have any heavy load applied to it.

The Ropeman 1 says 15KN-isnt that about 3300 lbs? Regardless, i'll just put the Ropeman above my prussic on the HSS tether then to give a little piece of mind.
Don't forget the stopper knot on the end of your tether. I've seen more than one arborist have a small twig get stuck in an ascender and prevent it from biting. If their prusik had not been above the ascender, the ascender would have taken the prusik (and climber) all the way to the ground. A stopper knot will prevent this.

Good point, the HSS tether I'm using does has a stopper on it.

I just use a 1 inch webbing. It's rated for 1500 lbs. You can get a military 500lb rated plastic buckle on amazon for a couple of bucks. I tested mine and it held my weight in a simulated fall. Here is the buckle I used.

I received all my stuff this week, Im headed over to my moms to have her sew in my strap and buckle, and some molle loops. I took Sewing in high school but that was 25 years ago!

I put together my linemans belt yesterday, used a figure 8 knot on the one side to a carabiner and have the ropeman 1 with a stopper knot on the other side, works slick! Thanks all for the input here.

I'm looking to try saddle hunting this year, so was going to order the Sit and Drag for a lower cost entry. I already have a rock climb harness and the HSS rope style tree strap that I can use as the tree tether, and a bunch of old strap on steps I could make into a ring of steps for the platform.

That said, Im trying to assemble all I need to buy - which is starting to add up a little more then I thought it would however $70 of it is for a couple Ropeman's which are optional as I could just do prussics. Does this look like a reasonable starting list to get into saddle hunting?

Below prices are from Amazon

For linemans belt:
20' 8mm climbing rope(wont use this much obviously)- $15
Ropeman 1- $35
Carabiner x 2- $10 ea

Sit and Drag- $35

10'- 1" webbing(for bridge and sewing to saddle for loops, etc)- $9

Ropeman 1- $35(this is to put onto my existing HSS rope tether strap to tied into the RC harness)

Dump Pouch x 2- $7 ea

Total: $154.00

u got a link to this stuff?

I like my sit drag but never felt comfortable when using aiders etc because it’s hard not to get slack in your system. As far at falling out of it with a minimal belt it isn’t going to happen. Maybe we could get @Erniepower to include a sit drag in his next drop test. He seemed to enjoy the last one. I bet it would fail.

I've done a couple practice sessions only a couple feet up- I like it so far. One thing I noticed though is with the dump pouches on each hip, its pretty awkward when walking with the saddle around your waist because the pouches are right where your arms hang down. I find i have to walk with my arms out away from my body

I never wear mine in around the waist I put the bridge across my shoulder and carry it like a duffel bag for lack of a better description
Or I pull it up my waist and carry it higher under my linesman

I guess I'll have to play around with it to see if I can figure out a better way

All I did to mine was tie on a webbing bridge and hunt. It’s been great for going on 3 years.

To bring this full circle, I had my first hunt last night in my DIY sitDrag. I made SloMo's DIY wheelchair footrest platform which worked great, and I shot a nice doe right before sundown on public land. Sit went well- the shot was on my strong side so not overly difficult however when i was at full draw i noticed my string was up against my bridge, i shifted my hips a little and it was enough to provide clearance. I'll have to play around with my tether height some so I dont run into that going forward.

That is great!
