Skeletor Sticks - not a fan of the pins?

So I love the sticks. Yes they could be lighter, but price to performance and 4 instead of a 3 pack is just awesome.

My only issue. The pins. The system is rock solid when they are connected.

My issue comes in at night. Breaking down in the dark and trying to align them is not quick. I know someone will say they can do it in 2.6 seconds, but that’s not me. I want to be able to just get the sticks on my bag and get out of the woods.

I have seen the 3D printed system to stack, but you lose the clean rope storage. As they use a bungee on the side. No big deal.

My thought is to remove the pins and just hold the sticks together with a strap like the one Latitude uses on their Carbon Sticks.

Anyone else running into this? Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Kris

Hi Kris
I also own the Skeletor Stiks and had them for the past 2yrs. The attachment method as well as the pin system work well for me even when breaking down after a hunt in the evening. I take my time with slow n deliberate movements as safety is of the utmost importance. How long have you had the Skeletor Stiks and have you practiced much with them?

Thanks for the reply.

Yes. I have ran them for 2 seasons. I love them. Last year I ran them vertical on my old pack and now horizontal on the bottom. It is not a matter of “can I” or “practice”, rather I want a better and faster way to pack up. There are several scenarios, where getting out of the space quickly is important.

I can’t be the only one because the make aftermarket systems that people are buying. Just curious on what others may use and their thoughts.

That's ultimately what led me to the Grit sticks, they were only $50 cheaper but they only have orange pins on the bottom and a black clip up top. Super secure and quiet and barely lighter. Not enough lighter to be a deciding factor though. Probably talking 4-5oz over the total 4 sticks. Plus they were right in front of me at Sportsmans Warehouse and I didn't have to order and trust shipping.

I don’t have any problem with the pins. Still using the original pins on two seasons now.

I can relate on the dual pins......hated them in the dark with cold hands. When I saw the GRIT sticks only used one set of the orange alignment pins and a clip on top.....plus Optics Planet had them at a good sale price before Christmas, I put them on my list. My bride gifted me with a set and they have been assembled. Too cold and snowy to fuss with them right now, but they will get tested thoroughly this spring. Same Dynalock and Amsteel system as the Skeletors too.

I have now run them for a while without the pins, and will never go back. I also realized that if you stack them alternating they stack straight! I only use a Nite Ize strap to keep them together and they are locked down. So quick at the end of the night!

I was messing around in the garage a couple weeks ago, our season ends the first Sunday of Jan so I was putting stands, saddles, etc away, and I had my sticks laying on the garage floor and garage door up. Unfortunately laying right where the garage door comes down. My wife comes home and accidentally hits the wrong garage door button.

I had them all laying separately which I guess made them too short for the sensor to trip. I thought the sensor would trip and the door wouldn't close. The door came down right on one of my sticks and broke the black plastic clip up top on the stick. I called Tethrd and told them what happened and how can I buy one clip. She told me not to worry about it and asked for my address. Instead of one black clip they sent me a pack to redo all four stick's black clips and orange pins.

I’m not sure about black clips, but I bought the first generation Skeletors and they had issues, Tethrd answered every request quickly. When I needed parts they was at my door promptly. Although a lot of people bash them I would not have a problem buying from them. Actually, last winter I bought another set of second generation Skeletors.
