Skinny guy fighting off hip pinch

Hey guys I’m looking for help I’m about 6’ and 140 lbs with a 29 inch waist and I just got a Tethrd mantis and I’m struggling with a little hip pinch problem anyone got any ideas or tips

Im having the same issue at 5'9 140lb. I haven't spent a lot of time in the saddle yet because I just got it but so far ive found that a really high (above my head) tether helps the most. Also I have the micro adjusters but that only made it worse so they are loose. Ive ordered some mil spec tubular webbing and heavy duty sliders from DanO to make a longer bridge. I also bought some 5.5mm cord to make a prussic on one side of my amsteel bridge to shorten it but from what I can tell, making it shorter = more hip pinch. Im going to play around with trying to find a good way to keep the bridge lower in the bridge loops if that makes sense. It seems like its more comfortable when the amsteel loops are lower in the bridge loops of the saddle. I don't know if theres any downside to preventing the bridge from being able to slide around in the bridge loop or not. Maybe someone will chime in on that because ive uncover no info on it with my research. In the end, it may come down to being in saddle shape and just getting used to it.

Just wondering if a piece of PVC pipe could be fashioned to used as a spreader of sorts???? Figure if done properly it wouldn't cut the bridge material.

sounds interesting... Maybe a shorter piece at the top of the bridge or a longer one at the bottom...?

I would highly suggest making a whoppie sling instead of using a prussic on amsteel (it's waaay too slippery of a material)

If you loop your amsteel once around your bridge loop before splicing a loop in the amsteel, the loop will cinch down on your bridge loop when weighted, this gives you the ability to choose where your contact point is on your bridge loops, and I agree lower is more comfortable.

Exactly what I was thinking and wanting to do. Ive never worked with amsteel rope before so ill have to learn about making a whooping sling and what ill need. So in order to loop it around the bridge loop means ill have to build and install a whooping sling in order to get it looped like that? In other words, theres no way to choose my contact point with the stock bridge the way it is?

I see what youre saying now. Youll be tying the bridge on with a wrap inside the splice....

I am new to this style of hunting and spent quite a few hours in my Mantis. 1st year in Mantis. I also had hip pinch however figured out that adjusting the Mantis to sit lower and cup my posterior solved the issue along with a lower tether heighth. Hope this helps.

You using the stock bridge? So you put the waist belt below you normal belt area and put your tether at what about upper chest height?

I'm not as skinny, 5'11" 170lbs, but a couple of things you can try that worked for me.

1. Switched my bridge from amsteel whoopie sling to 1" HD webbing with a HD slider on both ends. Started with 6' and made my bridge crazy long to start. I adjust my tether height so the bridge is pulled up all the way to the girth hitch on the tether. I've taken about 1.5' out of bridge so far, adjust the tether height to match, and I think I like it at that length. Reason for slider on both ends is to lock the webbing on the bridge loops. I also make sure it's locked in on the inside part of the bridge loop so it can turn out away from your body. Hope that makes sense.

2. Get 2 pieces of thin ridged material, I'm using 6" square pieces of leather, and place them between you and the saddle where you feel the pinch. This has worked out so well for me that I'm planning to permanently attach to my saddle once I determine best size and location. I'm going to experiment with other materials like plastic strips cut from a rubber made box.

Yes the waist belt is just below my belt line. The tether is at eye heighth and the ropeman is just below chin.
Took a while but finally dialed it in.

You try

so you have the bridge at 4.5ft? I have some webbing and HD sliders on the way. I had 4 sliders in my cart and changed to 3 bc I thought "well I can just girth hitch one side" so only ordered 3 (2 are for my Kn/Sw). Would the girth hitch not stay put on the bridge loop?? And im not sure I totally understand what you mean about the orientation...a pic would be awesome

I've been wearing the back of a folding thermaseat strapped to my belt for the past 10 years when hunting in hang ons and ladders. The notch I cut into it is so I can wear it under my bibs and leafy gear so it extend down past the crotch of the pants. Keeps you warm and very comfortable. With the mantis, I'd turn the pad sideways and put between me and the saddle so that it wrapped around my hips. This made the saddle much more comfortable and stopped the belt strap from pinching. Also keeps you a lot warmer in colder weather. This seat is about 17"x14"x.75" (not the 1.5" thick model). I use it on my jx3 as well and makes it even more comfortable, if that's even possible.

I use a similar pad in the JX3... as weather got colder I experimented with and without the pad, I was definitely much warmer with the pad.

Sorry been crazy busy have had no time to even check this till today thank you to everyone that comments looking forward to trying the the great ideas and getting this hip pinch gone

Likewise! Im glad you posted this because I was getting ready to. Definitely the most helpful forum full of people ive ever seen! Now, the jx3 looks awesome and I know its by far the most comfortable "saddle" out there but 9LB on your back is getting close to carrying a stand in isn't it? Also, can you stand up in the thing if you have a platform? im thinking about getting one to gun hunt with and use my mantis during bow season
