Smoking clothes

I've been smoking my clothes for a while, now, and been very successful. After all, smoke is aerosolized carbon, and much cheaper than a carbon suit.

I game some hardwood chips soaking in water now. My plan is hang the clothes in a tree..take my chimney smoker starter and get it hot then put the wet chips in and keep moving it from garmet to garmet

I bet making something like this and pumping the smoke into a plastic container with your clothes in it would work. After you get smoke coming out a crack in the container lid, remove the smoker and seal the container. Hmmmm might work.

Not much need for soaking. The smoker creates a low oxygen environment which promotes the smoke.

I'm not big on any scent killing product, 1- it's typically expensive for the amount of product you get 2 - I'm Cheap! 3 - Smoke has worked for me and its free, not only hunting but while wearing my wildfire clothes for dirty work during non-fire time, which rarely get washed (maybe once a fire ~3wks), they have been soaked in sweat nearly every day I've worn them, yet I have been on ground level and had all sorts of creatures get very close before spooking when they actually see me (even with what was once a bright yellow shirt). I know a lot of fire guys who have had similar experiences, especially while on a fire since everything smells of smoke but even in places fire hasn't been on the ground in years.

So my hunting gear I keep stored in a drybag while in the house so I limit human scent, but natural odors like dirt and smoke I'm all for. I'll wash them every 3-5 hunts depending on if and how much I sweated and then smoke them back up before going out. I have been smoking my clothes for most my hunting career now and between the saddle and the smoke (approx. the same time) I have only been busted visually, not smellingly(?) once, that I know of.

I don’t think there is any need for smoking them in a box.
I just hang them from a tree.
I use a cheap Bee Smoker

Yeah while it cant hurt, I just hang them downwind and near a camp fire while I enjoy a beverage or several by the fire. I have thought about getting a bee smoker for ease of having a lot of smoke fast but I only smoke them after the smoke smell gets weak or after washing.

Bee Smoker is A LOT more intense than campfire smoke.
Plus they are fun.

I have a couple of beekeeper friends....someday I want to set up a hive

I smoked my clothes heavy before yesterday's hunt. The wind was good but I did feel it swirl and hit the back of my neck while staring down a buck at 24 yards bedded below me. He was constantly testing the wind and licking his nose but never seemed to catch anything that alarmed him. I'm a firm believer that playing the wind and having the smoke cover up any swirling winds is a solid technique.

Here's my set up. It's a metal closet I bought off Craigslist cheap.

How long do you smoke them for? Nice looking setup!

Probably 15-20 minutes, I light a piece of paper and put it in the bottom of the bee smoker then add leaves/pine needles topped with shreds of hickory, oak etc. I put the bee smoker in the bottom and close the door while I go work on something else. The smoker eventually burns itself out.

Man, I have been running an ozone closet followed by smoking my clothes any time I’m on my dad’s place this year. (Only 4 acres, so easy to burn it out)

I have only been winded once, and that was on an 85 degree day. I have had several deer downwind of my, with milkweed going right by them.

I doubt this tactic would work on wise public land bucks, but these cattle farm deer that smell farmers/ranchers all day haven’t noticed a thing.

Now, if I could just get them out of the area at the end of the night so I didn’t educate them on my way out.....

I picked up a bee smoker and smoked my coveralls, saddle and all my hunting gear including bow for the first time this weekend. It seemed to work, I had a few deer get down wind of me where they busted me in the past and they never knew I was there, no reaction at all.
