So I had a thing happen this morning...

I carry a daisy chain and a footloop with carabiner. Have it in the pack no matter what climbing method I am using. Never had to use it but I do test it occasionally

you climbed 20ft up with a 10 ft rope. I'm reading all these suggestions about what you should carry next time, I hope you pick the one that has a rope that matches the height of your next climb up

I know it raises your costs up but really think stickers and 2TC guys for pure safety reasons should basically be setup to rappel as soon as they start the climb. NY saddle hunters just posted a video with a new kit for stickers that would be helpful

I saw that video. It's a pretty interesting idea and meant for everyone who climbs to hunt.

For me, the cost of adding a rappel option is not part of the consideration with 2TC. It is firstly the fiddle factor and secondly the bulk. I started out using a 30 foot piece of rappel rope and a figure 8 with my 2TC. I was fighting the delta link the whole way up and then I had to carry a pull-down line in addition to the rappel rope to get the rappel rope out of the tree. Once I got confidence with basic 2TC, the simple two tethers, I found that I could get up and down easier than using the rappel option when I factored in the setup and tear down. Simple 2TC was faster (fast was not the primary concern but it worked out that way).

Post season I plan to revisit the idea and I plan to remove the steel delta link and tie a regular tether loop on the rope and see if that helps. Maybe I can use the pull down cord as my bow rope and get dual purpose out of it.

Regardless of how you climb, I think it is a good idea to get the basics of 2TC down as a self rescue procedure and have a simple, light and packable foot loop in your kit at all times.

I'll have to look that one up. I was using about the simplest set up I can imagine. Just a small figure 8 and a Distel hitch above it as an autoblock. I was using the Distel as the connection to the tether and adding the figure 8 when I wanted to come down. I always thought if I fumbled the figure 8 and dropped it I would just 2TC back down anyway.

A couple of months back I saw a JRB knot I was excited to try and watched his video multiple times. I got pretty cross eyed, lol and stopped. I think I may be knot challenged, lol.

I use the running JRB to attach the rope to the tree. I use happy hands friction hitches on the rope and use a munter to rappel. If I am going to have to navigate multiple limbs going up, I use a carabiner in place of a quick link until I have the rope above the last limb to pass. Then I remove the carabiner and go to the running JRB. I use my pull down rope for bow pull up.
