That is a great question. I am going to try the wild edge steps though. The brackets are probably a bit faster to setup and I do not have to worry about placement as much. However, the steps pack better for the hike and the climb up the tree. One last hing dangling off of me while I climb is important. I have gotten pretty fast at setting steps. I do it in fifteen seconds if I am perfect maybe forty five seconds if I really have a hard time for some reason. So a minute and half to set up the platform worst case scenario is not the end of the world to me.
I am not sure which one is more comfortable. The brackets have a fairly large surface, especially if you space it in such a way the you can place one foot on two of them. However, the steps have a lot of surface area, probably more than the brackets. It may not look it but it really does work well for spreading the load of your weight. I will have to hunt several hours in both before I figure that one out.
I have some spare steps, so I plan to set a pair up as a permanent stand as well. I have enough corner brackets to set up a half dozen permanent stands, so they will get heavily tested this season. I am going to have at least seven permanent stands set up this year because these methods are so inexpensive. I have never had more than two spots, using traditional. Quite frankly, each method is so cost effective that by next year I will not have to run and gun because I will have twenty trees prepped with stands
