Solo Scout opinions

For guys that use it what’s your opinion? I’m currently using a ridge runner but since I lean 90% of the time I find myself just using the edge of it. 5’9” 210 pounds size 11 boot if that matters. Ditching 2 pounds and a bit of bulk sounds appealing.

Well we have the exact same build.. Last weekend I did 14 hours on it. I lean most of the time too and that’s why my platforms now are a scout on shikar and a pre-set solo scout. I didn’t have any foot fatigue for the 14 hours. I also have 3 squirrel steps on the strap for a little more flexibility.

I had the regular solo scout and it worked great but I decided to try to pre set one to use an ocb strap to lock it in rather than the cam over method like your RR. It’s rock solid!

I recently picked one up in a trade. I had a podium and liked it. Had a ridge runner and loved it. But I wanted to reduce the weight and bulk of my system. I think I’m really gonna like it. Only played with it on a tree a few times now, but our season starts this coming Saturday. I’ll be able to tell a lot about it after my first hunt with it, but based off of what I’ve played with it so far, I think I’m really gonna like it.

It’s very comfortable. The only thing I don’t like about it is not being able to stand to unload the bridge for bridge adjustment or tether adjustments easily.

Hadn’t thought about that, I routinely adjust my tether length when I start to feel uncomfortable. I’ll probably pick one up to play with next time they have a sale to see if the juice is worth the squeeze.

Yeah, it never occurred to me until I went up to test mine for the first time. I think with a couple squirrel steps on each side it would help that a lot. The angle is great though.

Yes that make a huge difference. I put one foot on a squirrel step and the other I hook my heal into the corner and can stand to adjust.

One drawback to the Solo Scout is that your foot is just a little too close to the tree for my tastes. If you are on a bigger tree, you run out of left-right room on the platform before you can straighten your feet out well. Using a Scout platform on a stick helps out with this issue.

As with everything, there is a compromise to be made, and you get a compact carry size in exchange for this issue.

I can see that being an issue. If I grab one I’ll keep my Ridge Runner for situations that warrant it.

I actually think a scout solo is a great compliment to a Predator or Ridge Runner to give full 360 access. It’s not that much to carry for a backside option.

It wasn't for me. I'm used to an Assassin/Ambush/Mission size platform so the solo scout was too far in the extreme.

Im running a scout on a beast stick with 2 squirrel steps on an ocb. Im more of a leaner as well. I really liked the idea of a platform when i first started using a saddle. 2 seasons using either a diy platform or a predator. Now this year ive done 3 sits with this setup and love it. Size 12 alphaburly fyi.

Did you use stock strap w ocb? Interested in this idea! Have a pic maybe of how strap works/hooks up. Thx
