So last night I snuck out behind the house and up a tree. Weather was cooling off and the rain coming in, I figured they’d move and at the least get a shot at a doe. I’ve got preset sticks out there so it’s only the platform, tether, and gear hanger. So rather than screwing in a preset bow hanger like I have my entire life I decided to get practice further with the HYS strap and hero clip that I’m using on public. So I climb, set up, tether connected, HYS strap on, pack hung and I pull my bow up and hang it. Reach over to grab an arrow out of the quiver and my brand new VXR falls 25’ straight down. Idk how, why, what happened, but I’m sick to my stomach and almost 100% sure bottom cam is bent...

Bottom cam is bent or the cam axle is bent. I had the issue of a axle seizing up on a Mathews helium the axle was no charge to fix because it was a pretty universal part. The cam on the other hand they may make you buy both cams and not sure how much that could be. Luckily it didn’t explode on you like my helium did.

I’m going to take it to Sam smiths bow shop tomorrow. He shots for Mathews and is a jam up dude here in Georgia. Hopefully he has something to fix it, or can get it fairly quick. Oh it sucks. But yes I’m thankful it didn’t explode

Hey, it’s just money!
I say that both sarcastically and seriously. It sucks for sure, but it’s something money can 100% fix, unlike health, family heirlooms, etc. It’s a great reminder to all of us that we need to be careful and intentional about every single move we make once we leave the ground, as it very well could’ve been your tether that failed/was connected poorly instead of your bow—that would be SO much worse. Glad you’re fine, but definitely hate it for ya, bud!

Early season hunts are always a cluster &$#%. I feel your pain man. I’m not a bow tech so I have nothing to offer but my sympathy. Sucks so bad.

I agree 100%. I wish I knew what happened so I know not to repeat it. It just.... fell. But no you are correct, it is just money... money I don’t have haha

If u were 3 or 4 hours further south I'd let u borrow my backup till u got a paycheck or 2... ..sorry can't help

Oh I appreciate it. That means a lot. Luckily I kept my old switchback for this exact reason. I’ve got the money to get it fixed. Just not what I want to spend the money on haha. Make sense. Seriously though, that’s pretty awesome.

Was the clip still on the strap or did it fall also

Still on the strap. I had just pulled it up and hung it. Had been on the clip for nearly a minute before I reached for the quiver and arrow. I didn’t bump it with my arm... the only thing I can think is when I shifted my bag grabbing for an arrow, the clip shifted and she fell. The only explanation I have. I about fell out chasing it down the tree haha. I guess thank God for the tether

Those g-hooks on straps seem to come undone pretty easily if not under tension. I learned the hard way too by using them to attach my sticks to my backpack and had 4 sticks scattered throughout the woods I had to find. Sorry to hear about the bow. If it makes you feel better, your backup bow is my main go to bow, ha!
