Where the skys are so blue!
So I've got a nice set of aluminum climb rites that I've practiced with maybe a dozen times and hunted with once. I bought them and then immediately fell in love with bolts.

I used them in conjunction with the predator platform, and that worked fine. But now that I've had an opportunity to try both, I really thing I'm more of a ring guy.

Bolts suck in pine trees though, and I've got access to three properties that are predominately pine. I feel like the spurs would be a better method.

Anybody use spurs with a ring of steps? Any tips for getting them on and off?

I kick them into the tree in front of me above the steps and take them off. I learned that from @huck72412 although apparently he does it at eye level. I rappel down with spurs because they suck to put back on in the tree. I'd like to figure that out better. Maybe losing a little gut would help.

Piece of cake!!!

Seriously, folks. This is driving me crazy. Hunted a second time with the spurs this past weekend (saw three does out of range, bah humbug) and liked everything but putting them on and off in the tree. Anybody care to share some secrets? Or is this my row to how?

Just use that, new to you, Windwalker stand for a platform. lol

I wasn't able to use spurs with the ROS and I'm not comfortable using spurs with my Predator platform. So, I just use my Limit stand when I choose to hunt with spurs and use my Predator platform when I climb with bolts. It's all good.

I put my gaffs in the tree in on my bag and put them back on in the tree. I use spikes almost everyday all day long good luck fellas cause it’s still not easy for me and been using them for 10 years or better

That was my only problem with using spurs. I have ended up just rapelling down. Have some spurs on the way again so I'm going to work on this again. Spurring down is easy, its getting them on that's hard!

I think it's definitely doable, but it's going to take some major practice. I'm going to put a ROS on my practice tree at ground level and just start playing with it every evening.

I need to replace the bottom straps. Right now I'm just double wrapping a piece of rope and tying it off. I found that the sea-to-summit g-hook wouldn't hold. Better straps would make it less tedious.

I'm also thinking that I need either a loop or hook on each spur to facilitate hanging one from my gear holder while I'm monkeying with the other.

I have a 2" strap and buckle on the top of my spurs and the original buckle in the bottom. I climb up just like Flinginairos does and then when I get ready to climb down I hook my lineman belt up and still have my tether hooked to the tree and put them on.

I always make sure that the top buckle is the last one off and the first one on because its the easiest one to work and once its on I don't have to worry about them falling off. I take my time and don't get in a hurry, Ive had no issues so far. I think the main thing is getting comfortable using them and getting them off and on safely.
