Squirrel steps or bolts

I hunt all public land, so bolts aren't a viable option for me, but for presets they are the tits from what I hear. Even drilling new holes for them is fairly easy from the stuff I've seen.

Squirrel steps are cool too, but carrying the steps with the straps would be bulkier than the bolts

If it were an option for me, I would use bolts in a heartbeat

If you can preset with bolts. It is very hard to beat compared to even spurs. Use a cordless drill pre season.
In season, I am not sure what is best. You cannot use bolts everywhere. I have some squirrel steps to try and I have hand drilled bolts.
I prefer one stick climbing so far. Next year I plan to leave behind paracord on trees I one stick so I can go back and SRT climb if I wish. SRT is not hard for 62 year olds. Drilling by hand with one bad shoulder hurts the one shoulder. Squirrel steps are compact, light, but there are alot of attachment points.

The simple answer... bolts rock in places where you can use them and where you can pre drill the trees. I use them at home only.

Bolts, I've used bolts for years. Since treehopper came out with the mini folding drill it's made climbing with bolts as a run and gun method even better, but I have this past season starting using squirrel steps as my platform, awesome combination.

Squirrel steps are a great ring of steps... Costly but great.

one stick is cheap - $50 for a hawk stick.

A good hand drill is $60 plus bolts are $2 each.

I use SS because I mainly hunt public land. If I hunted all private I would use bolts using steel for presets and a hand drill and carbon bolts for run and gun.

How do you like SS for climbing
How long to 20 feet
