Im wanting a good knot to use for a base anchor. Something simple i can do in the dark. Is a girth hitch good enough around the base of the tree? My rope doesn't have an eyelet on an end

Running bowline with Yosemite tie off. That’s what a lot of people use in the Arborist world. Safe and easy to do with practice. No metal either.

I used a running bowline the few times I used a base tie.

I tie off at the base of the tree 90 percent of the time. I have a quicklink tied with a poachers knot. I put the rope around the tree, unscrew the link and put it on the rope. Just like your tether except upside down. Never had an issue with it slipping once loaded. You can make two wraps around the tree before attaching the screw link if worried about slippage. Way easier to remove rope from tree when done hunting. Just have to make sure the limb or tree crotch can handle double your weight.

You don't need a pull down rope with a base tie so you could carry less things. Could pull up both pack and bow with the tail end of your rope. No tangled paracord to deal with. This may be good. Carrying less is always better. Less to forget to bring. Anything I forgot? :D
