It’s nice if you can preset paracord loops. Even then, your rope can get hung up trying to pull it through a crotch or even over a limb.

Throw ball in the dark on a tree you haven’t hunted - nope. Hard pass.

Make up a throw ball and line outta something u have laying around.... Next time u go in the woods try to see how quietly and easily u can get that around the trees u would think about hunting.......I tried but it limits ur tree chooses and I'm just not able to be quiet or accurate throwing a line up

DON'T BUY ANY SRT GEAR UNTIL YOU HAVE TRIED THIS FIRST.

Seriously, this is good advice that may keep you from losing $$ in the classifieds section later.

Bog fan of SRT and it’ll be ½ primary climbing methods this year along with one sticking - but.... not easy to run ropes in the dark and tree limbs where I hunt in IN require paracord presets if I’m SRT ascending for the morning hunt. Also lots of gear that clanks but that has worked itself out over time as I’ve dialed in my system. Good luck, definitely the ticket for afternoon sits/relocations.

I’m an SRT guy/fan. The points made above are good ones.
For me, SRT offers a great, safe way to ascend a tree nearly foolproof. I’m tetherd to the tree from the ground. I have a few friends in the lineman industry and they all remind me that a lineman’s belt simply slows a very rapid and painful decent....SRT actually prevents a fall . Of course they say this with sarcasm, but it’s is true.

I try to keep things in perspective: I’m not young enough to climb a tree with bubblegum and toothpicks. I’m not overly concerned about 2 oz here or there. I’ll choose the safest method for me every time. Full disclosure: I just purchased a Knaider Swaider from a fellow saddle hunter.......I'm certain it's an accident waiting to happen.....but, I really want to try.

To the point. Presets are a must if you enter in the dark. After that, it’s a great climbing method.

Have Fun and Be Safe

I keep coming back to my version of what Red Beard does - I use a combination of my platform and SRT to climb negating the need to throw a line in the tree. Presets are the best but going straight up and being able to be up at hunting height in 3 cycles is appealing to me. Now I use stuff carried over from rec tree climbing and being able to use a hybrid device and a foot ascender is less labor intensive for me. I got into rec tree climbing to learn how to access for bow hunting and being connected all the way up and down as I get older is important.

Please explain this method if you do not mind

That's why you do all that preseason or well before you plan to hunt. Its obviously not a system to cold roll into an area you've never been in before unless you're gun hunting.

If I remember correctly the original poster is from around where I live and he hunts public....we are on a quota system to were sometimes u won't find out u will have access to a wma untill a couple weeks beforehand....I agree that it is a great way to get up the tree if u are able to preset .....sometimes presets aren't able to be taken care of with the quota system that we have....

I have a couple of videos on YouTube (Paul Johnston) that would clarify what I am talking about. I have refined things a bit and can do it quite quietly now.
