I was checking a couple videos about both DRT as well as SRT method. I have everything to try the SRT method but I was curious to hear back from anyone if it is not worth the effort? The repel down looks easy.

In the past I have used lone wolf sticks or wild edge steps. I'm looking to change up how i use the wild edge steps so I don't have to carry as many this year. I use the Kestrel with the predator platform. I used to use a ring of wild edge steps but love the change to the platform.

Thanks!

LOL.. it's funny you mentioned the word 'fun' because I was thinking exactly the same thing. I didn't want to sound too silly in my first post but it does look like a good time.

Once you start you will have fun and look at tree all different. I see where people make a sport out of it. This is my first year, I love it.

When I went camping I brought my SRT kit and wandered around climbing trees. Nice way to find dry firewood in a state park. Dead, dry and high....

I have 60 ft of quarter inch Samson predator rope. I also have the Petzel Grigri 2 as the descender (Is the Mad Rock Lifeguard better?) and use the Left handed CT Quick'UP as the ascender. I have a foot ascender sling that attaches to my CT quick'Up. I also have a throw weight kit to get that first line up there. I have a lot of experience with many other climbing methods and looking forward to trying this one. How is the transition over to the platform once you get to hunting height? I'm expecting to still switch over to my tether once I get to hunting height. I'll be doing a lot of testing this summer gearing up for the season. Thank you everyone for the great feedback already.

I am having mixed experience with presetting trees for SRT. Wondering if it is worth the effort. I do like rappelling down from a hunt, though I may do less of that if I am only going to go up with knaider (instead of kn/sw). Meaning I find the knaider method safe enough in the dark that I don't feel the advantage as much with rappeliing down.

I only have 1 preset so far. It was time consuming to say the least, but now that my pull rope is set (and stays there), it should be a pretty sweet setup. The setups I have done in my yard have been pretty good. Getting better at throwing my throw bag, which is a huge advantage.

Hopefully you’ve had a chance to try it out over the weekend. I’m brand new to saddle hunting but used to be a rock climber. I saw some SRT videos and decided that’d be the way to go. I finally made some time to try it out tonight and works like a charm!

If you have a extension pole it a hundred times easier then throw rope

I didn’t like the mad rock lifeguard. It didn’t always grip the rope unless I set it. Grigri was similar. I really like the mad rock safeguard. Petzl rig is very nice too but bigger. I use the safeguard.

Samson Predator is I believe 11.4mm not 1/4". All this effort to make lightweight climbing kits people it seems are using pretty small diameter ropes and maybe don't realize that in rock climbing etc these are used doubled. I climb and rappel on 10.5mm static and my arborist lines are larger all they way up to 1/2". Just be careful and educate yourselves and remember gravity is not your friend.
