That's how I do mine. At the most you drop an inch or so as the rope tightens.I found this on Petzl's site when I was looking into this. Is this what you're talking about?

A 35cm Beal Jammy works just fine as an autoblock on OpLux or Samson Ultratech in 8mm.I climb with spurs but rappel down with the safeguard. When I first started experimenting with oplux I struggled finding a prussik that provided enough friction on it, which made an autoblock useless. It forced me to get smooth with the safeguard. I don't back it up.
