I know this has been talked about in other forums, and the major downside is getting a throw bag over limbs in the dark, and maybe the sound of equipment. Seems like a easy way to get up in the canopy for cover but I have no expariance with it. Thinking about using a hand ascender with foot strap and a belay device on my jx3? How hard is it to pull up rope? Any advice from folks that’s been there tried that would be appreciated before I spend the money on the equipment

I found drt to be easier but need double the rope. Bit I'm still practicing myself.

I made the switch last year and I haven’t looked back. Having trees preset with a pull rope is nice for mornings but I haven’t had any issues getting a rope in a tree I wanted to hunt. Like all the other methods it takes practice but once you become proficient at setting a rope your just a couple minutes from bottom of any tree to set up at hunting height all without ever exposing yourself to the possibility of a fall, if everything is set up properly. My advice would be to get together with someone who knows what they’re doing and can show you multiple set ups. There’s a big difference between the different srt methods. I’m a gri gri and hand climber guy.

I don’t know if he’s on here, but a fella named Jamie Cline really got me interested after I watched his you tube video. Looks like he uses a hand ascender, foot loop, and a belay device.

Is the hand device loud going up the rope?

I usually go in with my SRT gear and a single stick. If there is a tree I want to get in that doesn't have any limbs that will cooperate I just one stick it and rappel down after.
