I’m considering adding DRT to my list of climbing methods. I’m curious what are everyone’s thought on this method, Pro’s and con’s? Thanks in advance for your help

I haven’t started to use it yet for hunting but I bought all the gear for to. About $125 into it. I’ve practiced some. I think for certain trees it is the bomb but I definitely want them to be preset with the exception of a couple places where I don’t need to get real high into big old oak trees. Good luck.

I couldn't ascend using the hip thrust using the Blakes hitch. I was free hanging and did not have my feet against the tree so that may have been why. I used a foot ascender and was able to ascend DRT. You need twice as much rope as SRT to reach the branch and you climb twice as slow since you must pull twice as much rope during the climb. It is easier due to mechanical advantage minus friction over the branch. I have tried Double Rope / RADS with a GriGri and toothed ascender and it worked fine although twice as slow as Single Rope /RADS.

Tried it in my backyard multiple times and decided against it. Just another "thing". Decided to focus and be exceptionally proficient on my 2 current climbing methods. I didn't care for using my DRT rope as a tether, so I had to deal with all that rope in the tree. Didn't want to fuss with it.

DRT is definitely doable but there is an art to the hip thrust motion to advance on the rope. I tried both DRT and SRT. While SRT is a little more costly ($125 more) it is a much easier method to me. A simple cheap left handed ascender (I'm right handed) with a foot loop and a grigri 2 and I'm up a tree in no time.
