Decided to have 1yr old Sterling C-IV tested

-Originally purchased from CRUZR in Dec 2022

-Sterling C-IV has a (new) tensile strength of 4663lbs

-This particular rope is 1yr old and has 100+ sits on it. It also has been submerged in water for over 24 hours.

-it's been left out for months on wild life areas and exposed to everything from freezing conditions, to 90* F humid conditions.

Results: Broke at 4388lbs mid line. A roughly 5.9% decrease in tensile strength. attachment-2 (10).jpeg
This test was for entertainment purposes. Many things I exposed the rope to, go against best safety practices. Climb at your own risk.

I recently started one sticking, and repelling. Thanks for validating my rope choice!

It is, yes. And it shows that a properly sewn eye is extremely strong. Props to CRUZR's splicing department.
So let’s suppose the rope was treated “normally” and kept relatively clean and dry…would you assume it would break above the stated MBS say, one year in? How about 2? 5 years in?
My curiosity is on catnip.

My guess is you would be within 2% of MBS. I intentionally abused this rope a week before sending it in, just for good measure.

It's designed for use in wet conditions, but I soaked it in water for 24 hours and then let it dry in the sun (in 27* F)

Provided it's not exposed to chemicals, excessive UV, the fibers are not damaged, the rope should last for years. Always inspect pre and post use though.

IMO it's the best rope for onesticking. I have 200' of Canyon Elite too. While it has a higher MBS, I am not a fan of the size for my dump pouch (when it's cut down to 40')

is C-IV actually 9mm?

cool test....but don't ever treat ropes like that if you're going to be using them....i hope all that neglect and watering was accidental or just for this experiment

It was just for the test. However, I use a different type rope that I DO leave out in all conditions. But that's designed to sustain it

still wouldn't do it....my office's commercial coffee maker was designed to be left on all the time (and my secretary insisted on it)....until it melted one day and almost set the building on fire.....
