Fellas,
I know the stick/aider method has been discussed ad nauseam. This weekend i tried it out for the first time and put 18 reps in. Bottom line - I really like it. Nothing revolutionary here, just another perspective.
Facts:
1) With two sticks and the aider (3 step) I was able to get to a height where i could hang my platform at 15ft. That is good enough for me in most of my hunting situations!
2) With three sticks I could get just OVER 20 feet.
3) With four sticks (NOT USING AIDER) I was only getting to about 15-16ft.
Conclusion:
1) With two sticks and the aider I can climb almost as high as i did with FOUR STICKS no aider! That's huge for me.
Opinions:
1) I really like carrying the sticks as a sling. Previously i attached them to my pack but i like the versatility that the sling method gives you. Also keeps the weight concentrated in your pack down.
2) Using the aider was not difficult and didnt make me feel unsafe.
3) Using your hands to open the loops of the aider before stepping in is helpful on the way up. On the way down you cannot do this.
