Stick Length Recommendation

I am 6ft tall so a decent distance between steps I can handle ok. I only have experience with the full size hawk heliums, usually used 3 last year. I am close to purchasing a set of EWO Ultralight sticks and I was wondering what people would recommend as far as stick length. I was thinking about getting a single or double sown in aider on at least the 1st/bottom stick. Just looking for opinions since there are a lot of different ways to go with them as far as length and aiders go.

Not really interested in single stick climbing at the moment.
Thanks in advance.

I’m 5’7” and have used 18-22” step spacing on sticks. The lower end of that has been the most comfortable.

I'm 6'4" and I use 22" steps from EWO. Love them. They bite to the tree and stay there. I have a double aider on my first step (20"/aider) and single 20" aiders on my other two. I can get up to 18' with the three of them.

22" steps fit very nicely on my pack, make for a very manageable step, and get me high enough in the tree.

I am 5’8 and also used sticks from the 18 to 22 inch step spacing...currently use 22” with no issue but prefer 20”

I'm 6ft and just was in the same boat about a month ago. Switched from 3 full lone wolf sticks to 4 DIY beast sticks. 20" step on a 22" stick. 2 step aider on bottom stick with 18" spacing. I put on all my cold weather gear and lifted my leg as high as I could with the tape measure to the ground. I took 2" off and settled on the 20" step.

I am also 6ft and settled on 20 inch step spacing. I built 22 inch sticks with 20 inch step spacing from LW and EWO parts. As mentioned above, I also use a 2 step (20 inch spacing) aider on the bottom stick and single 20 inch aiders on the others. It keeps everything very consistant with the muscle memory and is really easy to climb in the early season and comfortable in mid/late season with the heavier boots/clothes.

Thank you all for the replies. Sounds like I'm going 22 inch stick with 20 inch spacing on steps. I appreciate the help on this rabbit hole decision lol

I’d recommend 20” for your height... And depending on your ideal hunting height maybe add an aider to your first two sticks to make sure your are at or above that 16- 18’ mark

I think that's the way to do it. You can't really go by height because other factors like age, weight, physical condition, etc all play a role as well. It's super easy to measure your step height, and then you know it's right for you.

I'm 6'4 and use 20" step spacing but 22" would be nice. Not sure how sewn aiders would compare to my cable aiders but I've learned it's easy to get your foot stuck if you space the sticks out too far lol.

One thing you need to be aware of when deciding on stick length/step spacing/aider spacing options is you will always be able to make a longer step or higher step to the first or lowest stick to the ground. The remaining steps while on a stick are harder usually because you can't lean back and get your hips in the same relative position as you could standing on the ground. Adding slack to your lineman's belt/rope helps with that issue but still not as easy as from the ground. I'd make my decision on this length relationship/decision when transitioning from one stick to another and the ground step will be a piece of cake.
