I am thinking about cutting my muddy aerolite sticks down. They would be cut roughly in half and only have 2 levels of steps instead of 3. I want to make them easier to pack and will run 24" aiders on each stick. With this I should easily be able to obtain 20' with 4 sticks. I don't mind experimenting with 1 stick being as I have 6. Just not sure on a couple things...... if the button would need to be moved and placement of the lower stand off. Anyone have any good ideas? 15939101219671353127133340761694.jpg Step to step will be roughly 16" and I'm not sure if I should leave enough post below the bottom step or above it for the bottom stand off.

Why not sell them and buy 4 20” helium’s for $99?
Don't feel like going through the hassle to sell them. Plus I have a couple buddies that have had heliums and they did not care for how they bit the tree compared to a few other sticks.

You will need to move your button. I can tell you that much. 2/3 the height of the stick will typically keep you safe. Tons of similar builds here, good luck.

18" top to bottom. Had the bottom stand off kick out on me on the first test. But I think it was due to rope positioning. I say this because the next 4 tests I had no issues and made sure there rope was level when I wrapped it around the tree. Also set it up with the factory strap and had no issues. Was rock solid on all tests after the 1st. Will test it more before duplicating the modification on 2 or 3 more sticks

I've never used those particular brand of sticks but the way your rope is positioned in the pic dont look right. I try to get the rope vertical with the button and when u apply the load the stick will drop a small amount but the rope stays in a more vertical position than that....if it's just a photo op than disregard

Looks good otherwise.....enjoy the benefit of packability. With the right aider u can get to 20ft+ with three sticks....I can easily hit 20 with my 3 16" sticks and 3 step carry as u climb aider....however, that type of aider isn't for everyone...

I always placed the rope close to if not level when wrapping it around the tree with the full length sticks. But with the cut down sticks it wasn't working well..... possibly button placement?..... So I punted and broke out the original straps. They hold rock solid. I think the rope has a little too much stretch in it. The bottom of the stick wouldn't stick to the tree if I pulled back on it when using the rope. But I can use the rope for my aiders. 20200705_153851.jpg
Rope will be properly modified for an aider. Just threw it together real quick. I will also add a bicycle tire tube section over the buckle on the strap to eliminate any metal to metal contact.

Make sure you have another way to get down the tree since that aider could fall off.
