Still need to tweak my setup

So I’ve had 3 hints this week as a new saddle guy

The one thing that stands out is all the extra stuff I seem to have

3 ropes compared to 1 linesman rope

I seem to be spending a lot more time getting up the tree than I used to with my lone wolf and 3 sticks

Any advise would be helpful as I’m way more comfortable in the saddle

Just need a better system of getting up

It takes the same number of ropes to hunt safely out of a tree stand or saddle. For me that’s two. One linesman one tether. You should have been using a tether and linesmans when hunting with lone wolf. What is your climbing system. It can’t possibly take more time to climb three sticks wears my a saddle vs tree stand.

It’s just practice man. Keep at it. My first hunt in spurs took twice as long as using a single aider. Saddle hinting has a steep learning curve but it’s short.

Are the trees similar?. I've been using a gnarly tree in my yard to practice on. Its not one I would try to go up with a stand on my back. So I had the same issue. This one leans has 3 trunks and tons of branches. It took longer than I used to go up as well. But I chalk it up to the tree being more difficult than I have attempted with my hang on. Just a thought.

I think it has todo with attaching my sticks to my saddle compared to my Rock climbing harness I used as y safely system

Also I only used a linesman rope them used that to tie off on my stand

Now I have a bridge and a teather plus I used to put my lone wolf on my back and go up where my xop is clipped on my saddle along with 2 other lw sticks

Like I said I feel wayyy better in my saddle but but it seems like I’m not as efficient
I did goto to using caribener to clip in my sticks on my saddle instead of a simple loop over on my RC

Seems like I’m fumbling a little with that getting them off

Plus I used to set my pack on my seat when I hung my stand that to get my crap all organized then I’d pull my bow up

Seems like some little things but I’d like to hear the steps you guys take

I'm with you @Bowtech12 , but in a reverse way.
I first started elevated hunting with a saddle, then went to the ground, and then tried hang on stands. When it came to the whole hang on stand approach I felt confused, and as if it were taking a lot more time/gear to setup.

Think about it this way, sure you may take a bit longer getting your climbing and gear arranged, BUT once in the saddle, you will become a much more efficient hunter. With the saddle, you can now be presented with far more shots due to 360 degree shooting.

You most likely have many years of elevated hunting with an order of operations that is suited for a hang on stand, so just take your time, and let your muscles learn the nuances of setting up for a saddle hunt.

and as a final note, make sure you are rocking crocs before ascending and hanging, that's the key to being a saddle ninja

As important speed up a tree is, I find it so much more important to take my time and be as quiet as possible. At the beginning of the season last year it would take me all of 25 mins to get set up, by the end it was 15-20 mins. Its not a race, but a contest of being silent in my opinion! Have fun

I would agree with being quiet over speed but i does d practice all summer but with the addition of hunting cloths on darkness and a fanny pack it seems like I’m fumbling around a lot more

Especially with the bow rope as I used to tie that off on my hang on before going up with that

I personally wear my pack on my back while I climb, leave my bow on the ground and use doyles hoist to bring it up once I get set up. Gear hanger around tree, pack hanging, all tethered, camera arm and cam set up, etc then pull up my bow. Also once you add hunting clothes instead of shorts, I do not try to stretch out my steps as much. But this is also were an adjustable aider helps me lift my leg lol

What type of platform do you use and how do you carry it up the tree

I use the XOP and I strap it to the outside of my pack. Get to hunting height, tether in, remove pack, take off paltform,, put pack back on and set platform. I am sure others do it differently but this is a process that does not bother me. Should be easier this season with the predator.

Things may change this season as I am trying to use a BowBat to replace the pack ... not quite sure yet.

Klemz. I take it off my pack and tie it on one of the loops of my saddle. It hangs like 3’ below my waist.
