Suggested rope lengths for starters

The Mantis has been tested to loads in excess of 8000 pounds.

Please be aware that the forces generated from a dynamic fall of any length will likely be in the 1000's of pounds. Using non-climb rated rope and equipment in a life support situation is just asking for problems. Please consider your loved ones and seriously consider using climb rated rope.
I think I might pick up some predator rope, but i got the harbor freight rope for practicing with my bow and a towel saddle in the yard at ground level. Ive never been off the ground in the harbor freight rope.

So I made a new tether today and wanted to share what I learned for anyone's future reference.

I'm using Samson Predator and I tie one large figure 8 on a bight on one end for the girth hitch around the tree and a small figure 8 on a bight on the other side to tie into the bridge carabiner if the friction knot were to fail.

I measured before and after and lost 5 feet of length total. I.e. started with 13 feet of rope and the end result was 8 feet from eye to eye.

My tag ends are a little long, but nothing crazy.

Just wanted to pass along (ask me about how I ended up a 5 foot useless tether sometime).

That's actually an overhand on a bight. Serve the same purpose as a F8 on a bight and use less rope to tie but the overhand is harder to untie then the F8 after it has been loaded.

Ok. My understanding was this is a figure 8 on a bight, but I am no knot expert by any means.

Here is a view of the otherside of the knot.
