This is my homemade platform. I tried a ratchet strap today and it fell out from under me when I side loaded it. Any suggestions. Would a 2 "versa button" work with a daisy chain? 20200804_152136.jpg

Hook the ratchet strap to the stand with the hooks and run the hooks through the actual grate and around the tubing it won't go anywhere!!! Hope this doesn't confuse you!!

Simple to add a hex head bolt from back side the head will give just a little grip but not hurt the tree.
Yeah, I was already gonna suggest something like this before I read your post.
I'm also thinking that those holes in the post could be utilized for leveling the platform. A grade 8 screw thru the holes (towards the top) could be screwed in or out to level the platform. Maybe tack weld a nut to the hole which would retain the screw. The screw probably could use some tweaking where it interfaces the tree...maybe some sort of little footing on it?

How did you have it strapped to the tree? Unless I am not understanding something, the only way it could fall out from under you is if you had the ratchet strap around the posts above the platform. I would run the strap under the platform, a ratchet strap should be rock solid. Some pics of how you were strapping it the tree would be helpful.

Thst is exactly how I had it. I thought the friction would hold it. I was wrong.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Is there a better option than a ratchet strap in the tree? I felt very clumsy and awkward trying to hold the platfotm up and maneuver the strap as well.

For my heavier hang on stands, I always put a screw-in step or small eye-hook in the tree when I reach hunting height. Then, on the tag end of my haul line I have a little loop tied. When I pull the stand up, I hang it from the eye hook. Both my hands are then free to deal with the strap, chain, etc. That method works so well. Its far less tiring, much quieter to set, and safer because I'm not struggling. It really helps for dealing with larger trees where you might struggle to toss the strap around while trying to hold the stand.
For long term pre sets. You can just hang the stand from the hook and loosen the chain (to guard against tree growth) or even take the strap out during long periods that you aren't using the stand...saves the strap from weathering and UV damage. But the stand will be hanging there all ready to set when you return months later.
