Suitable Carabiners

Looking for recommendations of suitable back up carabiners. Figuring I’m going to need some as I’m getting into this. What’s a widely available, budget friendly carabiner that’s trusted? I’m looking for something that could be used for linesman/bridge connections, etc. What am I looking for rating wise and what’s the go to?

I have several different ones and like the round shaped to use with my ropeman 1(s) I just picked up this 3 pack off Amazon. These have the auto lock rather than screw lock. I didn’t go crazy with it , but I put a lil vet tape on them. These are pretty sweet and with a rating of 5620lbs, they should keep me from falling.

Also, a tip I read somewhere mentioned using climbing rated biners for your other lines-bow/gun line etc…..never know when you’re gonna need one.
I wish I had bought these carabiners in the beginning but I got some with ropes purchased and with my hawk saddle etc..
for what it’s worth, go ahead and get quality ropes too…….I got canyon elite from eastern woods outdoors and it’s not CIV(outta stock) but is so much nicer than the stiff Amazon ropes I first purchased. You’ll love tying knots with it!

I use black diamond hot forge

Please don't skimp on things holding your life. Skimp on arrows or a bow or camo or a million other things

X3 on black diamond forges also really like the tethrd biners though over priced

Thanks guys. That was exactly what I was looking for. Planning to stash a few (hoist line, hanging gear from pack or saddle, etc) just to know I have spares if one goes missing or for some reason is not useable.

Any "brand name" climbing rated carabiner(s)! I prefer the Kong and DMM brands myself, but any reputable climing-rated model/brand. I get sketched out with the no-name Amazon/ebay/Wish offerings...

Thanks. Exactly what I’m looking for. Never heard of DMM. I don’t have much knowledge when it comes to the climbing gear cross over that saddle hunting brings. Just trying to make sure I’m not taking unnecessary risks to save a dollar. My goal was to stay with petal, black Diamond, Kong, etc.
when you say “climb rated” is there a rating I should be looking at to stay above for my bridge/lineman’s connections? Obviously I want it to be locking but I’m sure that not all locking ‘biners are built the same or rated the same.

Appreciate the info, trying to shorten the learning curve here.

Mad Rock Super Tech Screw Carabiner (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003E2WV80/ref=cm_sw_r_apanp_pk9bKYVobCoYI

I ordered these to be my go to all purpose carabiner, when I ordered them they were only $8.50ish a piece. They seem to be a solid carabiner that isn't too big or too small or too heavy, just a nice middle of the road carabiner for most applications.

When I refer to rated, I guess it could be clarified to be a rating of 22kN or greater (with the gate closed). Autolocking or screwlock is preference, with physical weight playing a part. The screwlock will typically be lighter. DMM is primarily on the arborist side of climbing...

Agreed with off brand stuff from Amazon. I am a Petzl guy myself but I do have some BD's as my spares.

I’ve been using the Metolius Element ($10 from REI) and love them. Just a good locking HMS shaped carabiner. They are matte black coated. I like them because the pear shape allows you to tie a Munter hitch for emergency rappel if needed.

Thanks guys. I’m making a list just so I know what’s trusted. Ordered a few to get hands on with and try and build up a preference for one type or another.

Just make sure you know what line and ascender you want to use with it. I just switched to 8mm and Kong ducks which mean I needed two new oval ones.

Good to know. I’m not there yet. Everything I’m running is manufactured for its intended purpose. I’m fine with prussiks at the moment. Not looking to complicate the system until I know every part.
