Tax Avoidance

Is he there prime rut? Have you considered a decoy or calling? Or tried?
Give him a reason to come out that way. Or at least check it out. Take @Red Beard with you. Have him sneak inn 75 yrds or so off and up wind far enough away. You set up down wind from where hencould sneak a peak. While he makes all kinda buck fighting noises. He comes to check it out circling in slowly down wind.. you slap the ol EZV on the kill zone and send 750gr thru him. Done.
Welcome to Florida .....u only get to hunt this wma if u get ur name picked out of couple hundred thousand others....I can only hunt this property when I get drawn for that quota. Could be archery maybe muzzleloader u never know

I have an example of a property line/boundary.....and if anybody can help me figure out how to kill this buck I'd appreciate it :tearsofjoy:

Left side of the pic is public. Right side private. Red line is the.property line, green circle is an island surrounded by waist deep water that is so thick with cattails and lilly pad and other green stuff u can't walk or use a canoe/yak without making tons of noise. The island is roughly 10yds wide and 20yds long and the escape route is onto the private. The fence runs right thru the island on the very eastern side. He beds on the west side (public side) and he's there a lot based on the amount of hair and poo and every tree on the island is rubbed. I've peppered the area with cameras for 3 years and he rarely goes into the public side. Deer feeders and food plots on the private from what I've heard (can't 100% verify) It's roughly 100 yards from the public southwestern bank of the pond to the island but the island is so thick with brush I don't think I could get a shot thru and I'm also scared because if I hit him I would have to drop him instantly.and I'm not exactly sure if I am confident enough in myself that I can do thatView attachment 48216

Two bounds and he's on private....he's a nice 1 and a big jerk

burn the Island on accident putting your cigarette out.

I always marvel at the cognitive dissonance in hunters and fishers. They’ll employ an effective tactic or piece of equipment, and announce to the world how good they are at hunting or fishing for doing so. Then turn their nose up at you or ignore tactics that are just as effective or more so. There’s really no difference other than the arbitrary stories we tell.

I like to make hunting just as hard as it has to be to keep it interesting. Turns out having every advantage we’ve come up with, but on new dirt, is just about right most times…

What surveyor made up that wavy-azz property line? I'd argue that in court if somebody wrote me up for stumbling across a line that got painted by somebody loaded up on mad dog.

You're welcome to borrow the hickory creek and a judy-point if you wanna scramble his eggs.

I have to give it to whoever installed the fence...it is nasty terrain and i don't think they could have used any equipment without it sinking into the abyss

Consider doing some site prep work WAY before the firearm season opens - just enough to minimally open up a couple of shooting lanes near the West and the Southwest edge of the island. If cutting isn't legal, mash down and bend stuff out of the way to open up a couple of viable shooting lanes. With careful and judicious prep, no one but you will even know it's been done. Prep your saddle-hunting sniper station on the SW edge of the pond with a solid rifle rest. (You want the points in the contest, right? ... so it needs to be a saddle kill.) Make sure that you can use a bow hanger on the side of your tree or a solid limb or an adjacent tree for your rifle rest. Now that your site is prepped, it's time for your preparation at home.

Get yourself an accurate scoped bolt action rifle, sight it in for 100 yards and practice with your chosen hunting loads until you're confident you can shoot 2" groups or better at that distance from a solid rifle rest. You'll need to get a shot at him when he's stationary. When you do, aim for the base of the neck. If you do your part, he's not gonna make it to private land. With good placement, a neck-shot deer usually drops in place and quivers until it expires.

Next problem: After you slay him, how are you gonna get to that bad boy and get him across that quagmire of a pond?

7. PRESSURE IS GOOD IF THE DEER ARE THERE.

I've had some very frustrating but fruitful hunts on gun-deer weekends on popular WMAs. You need some prior planning, thick skin, and a bit of luck, but the horde descending on deer means they'll be on their feet until they can work out the safe zones. If you're sitting in one, the action can be stellar.

Agreed - in rifle season. I learned this many years ago hunting in PA. Some pieces of public that I hunted were so packed that at daybreak you'd see hunter orange every 100 yards in every direction! The first hour of legal shooting on opening day was like being in a war zone. You knew the deer were coming your way before you could even see them, just by the closer and closer proximity of the gunshots! The deer kept running until they were safe or dead. Best to position yourself in travel corridors or funnels that lead to edges of security cover. There is an aspect of luck involved, but man, when you're on a property that has deer and the hunting pressure is high, you'll see 'em!

I drive up there and either get in the bottom corner of pic with wind blowing my scent hitting him partially from private and let it soft push him to u & if that don’t work on another day I can throw stuff across fence line towards his escape route

Try to spook him toward public and avoid his normal escape route entrance

Hopefully he hugs the public side a little before deciding to jump the fence and head toward private on an alternate route

Best to be muzz or gun quota and u be able to pretty much shoot him in the neck when he stands up and is sneaking on ur side of the fence before he decides he safe enough to jump

Another great way to gain access on private, even on some properties that are owned solely by groups of hunters or hunter families is by trapping. Everyone enjoys seeing a coyote, fox, coon, skunk, 'possum, etc. until you come upon a bunch of egg shells strewn wither and tither and you realize there's a large predator population on the lease you've been forkin' greenbacks out for every year. What an opportunity. This makes more sense for those properties you know are being managed for game bird populations but even ones for deer, especially if all of the hunters live far away. Once you develop their trust and have had some impact, you've got a door open for some early or late season deer bowhunting or ML opportunities. For some reason people equate your killing ability with the implement you offer to hunt with. Don't ask to hunt deer, ask to bowhunt or ML hunt deer on their properties. Make sure you send them pics. of your predator harvests too so they know you've been helping them out. Some of the best opportunities are those parcels people just own to have access to their own woodlots. Forest lover types. One thing's for certain, they didn't get the ability to buy large parcels of properties by being spendthrifts. I've had some of the best opportunities by people knowing I trap. If a beaver colony starts to cut down their timber management trees.... you can bet you'll be getting some phone calls. Another foot in the door for some great big buck hunting. Rarely do they want to pay a professional trapper to come in and take care of the problem.

Man, what a letdown, I opened this thread hoping for some real tax avoidance advice, especially with the Dems wanting to raise capitol gains taxes!

Thanks for the thoughts, definitely a good reminder on the property line and overlooked spots. Already got me looking back at some of my spots to make sure I have scouted these areas.

Good read and good info! Look forward to more of you coming out of your shell :)

I'm usually picking up what you are putting down but i'm not into property edges and hopping, based solely on experiences ive had on permission land where ive had jacks walk right through- " oh sorry - i was just cutting a corner, didnt realize...." and guys in stands right on edges (some were GOOD spots)
Over a 100yds is not too bad in most of the east , sadly.
This reminds me of the sociopaths in airports that dont wash their hands in the bathroom and then you see em boarding your plane. Its not illegal but im going to judge you and offer some hand sanitizer.

I also routinely shoot small deer and miss some so what do i know.

Also Roth IRAs after you max out 401 contibutions

Please don’t let them screw me! The “little screw me’s” ain’t bad but we’re flipping out a house in Dec I hope they cannot get it done before I sell!!!!!!!

Number 4 has me questioning. I have never or have I ever been asked from a stranger about a "hot spot" at a WMA parking lot. However, I am amazed at what complete strangers offer up.......number of deer seen, where they were seen, bucks seen, big bucks seen etc. Mind blowing really. Maybe I am a ****, but my response is always the same, I didn't see any, I didn't hear any, this place has no deer, that story never changes even if saw 10 booners and had 2 dead ones behind a tree 50 yards away. You have to be careful with number 4 and giving advice. I hunt with nephew # 1 a lot, last year nephew #3 (brothers) started hunting more and asked for some spots. We freely pointed him in the right direction, next thing we know nephew #3 is hitting our spots with a college buddy, future brother in-law, future father in-law and some other dude we never could figure out where he came from.

Misinformation is as important if not the most important game public land hunters play. If they tell you what deer they saw and where they're probably hoping you'll go there instead of their "secret" spot. Many hunters I have encountered are lying thieves! Don't trust a thing hunters say unless you're close friends with them.

I used to believe in subterfuge. I don't anymore. All I can say is try not being a **** for 2 seasons. Be honest and helpful and cooperative.

Most people greatly overestimate themselves and assign too much weight to the value they bring to a partnership and not enough to the value others bring. Most people also underestimate both the intelligence and goodwill of others.

Life as a social animal gets easier when you're social.
