TEAM 2 Thread (2023)

skunked yesterday. Think it was just too warm and nothing moved until late. I setup really close to bedding for that reason but still didn't see anything. next time...

Been off a while, congrats on the deer fellas. I should be in the woods this weekend but I’m up in Wyoming chasing the majestic Wapiti. Cold front rolls in next weekend back home in Nebraska (60s to 30s), you can bet I’ll be out Lord willing.

Doe with two fawns just walked by. No shot. Hope that’s a good sign for movement the rest of the evening

Hour later another doe appears when suddenly she just bolts. 8pt appears grunting every step chases her off followed by a small spike. Hard to get a shot on rutting bucks with a bow sometimes

I had a single doe come out of the swamp and eat acorns on my island

Heard another deer splashing my way from the island behind me but it never made it to where I could see it

Was out Wednesday
the 18th. A morning sit turned into an all day setup downwind of a fresh-scrape on public that I’ve monitored for the past three years… last year a shooter came in around about this time of season at 10:30 and I blew it monkeying with my gear! He saw me before I saw him… so I have a vendetta with him. Fresh rub within 15-20 yards of the scrape. Just a spiker went by this am and two fall flocks of turkeys in the afternoon. I ended up staying all day as the wind stayed consistent and I’ve also had bears on a cam I had set up overlooking the scrape and the surrounding area. Nothing after the turkeys and walked out in the dark.

I had a trapping class all day Saturday so I couldn’t get out. Hoping to possibly get out this afternoon. Wife is out of town in business, kids, not certain it’ll happen for sure until our schedule settles down a bit.

My buddy Ray filled his deer tag, got his first buck ever while we were out elk hunting. Said he would drop the first deer with horns he saw. Wasn’t a great shot. We tracked him 2.5 miles over rough terrain. Spent 4 hours in the dark the night before, was back at first light and spent 5 more hours, but finally found him bedded and dispatched him without bumping him at 60yds.

Ray didn’t grow up hunting and the last couple years he got interested so he is pretty new. He learned a lot about stalking, tracking, and how to debone a deer in the field (we gutted first so he could learn how).

Unfortunate no elk yet but we have seen them. Good luck out there gents!

Heat wave coming for me. Today after work looks like the last day I'll hunt this week. Hopefully something makes a mistake this evening.

Blew it last night. Heard a deer walking behind some really thick stuff, rolled a can call and a doe immediately appears walking straight at me. Was looking at her through binos making sure it was a mature doe and not a button buck or doe fawn. Thought I had plenty of cover between us and just lowered my binos with no care of being seen (she was at 20 yards or less). Well, she saw me. Looked at me for 10 seconds, blew and bolted. Rookie mistake for this old timer.

Another 80+ degree day. I’m hunting now as 60 is doable. Can’t wait for the cool off coming tomorrow. I’ll be freezing in a few days but the deer should love it.

Scouted 3-4 miles today in new areas, didn't see anything exciting. I need the wind to shift back more southerly on Thursday to get back into the area I found last week.

Got everything loaded up for an all day rut seeking chasing phase sit tomorrow fellas! Good luck to everyone going out!! I’ve never been able to hunt Halloween much if at all so I’m looking forward to this!!
