Teaser...... 20+ feet at 3ish pounds

I would guess a 6 to 9 inch stick with one step on the bottom and a 6 step aider will get you 100 inches on the first move and 84 on the next two..

So less than 3 pounds and over 21 feet.

A 8 inch stick would weigh
  1. 80 g for the post
  2. 160 for the stand offs -lone wolf
  3. 65 g for on angle iron step
  4. No holes in the post
  5. 10 g for the versa button or 20 g
  6. 50 g for some rope.
  7. Some bolts and rivets too.
Total 365 g plus aiders... It is packable in a pack, easy to carry and not too hard to climb.
2.4 pounds for 3 sticks plus not much for aiders.

One moveable 6 step black diamond aider. 240 g... total weight about 3 pounds.

I will likely make one after I decide what step to use... two lone wolfs steps spaced 8 inches apart or a single angle iron step.

The lone wolf steps would pack real nice. And would almost be like a double step when they were that close together.

Easy to attach, easy to pack, light weight, not hard for this 60 year old to climb this aider.

You are very close to what I have in mind. Not quite, but close. Just curious how are you coming up with 100 “ for the first move? That’s 8’4”. I can attach something at 7’ but that is my max with light clothing on.

Yup and even with the 1/8” wall tube at only 8” long there’d be no weight.

How long has this idea been cooking in your head?! Leafs fans...takes you guys forever to spill the beans! Hahaha

Easy... what I did all fall but I got 110 inches... you put one stick on the tree temporarily... go up two feet. and put your first stick on at ... in this case 100 inches... your aider is 6 feet. You step up 2 feet. 2 feet to the bottom of the stick. I am not sure how high you would get with a short stick but I easily got 110 inches with muddy sticks. It takes no time at ground level. I did not do it on my second stick but could have.

One day. Inspired by this thread - Really, I started thinking about this in 1967 the last time the Leafs won the Stanley cup... This is the year. Go Leafs Go

You could do this with Wild edge steps but removing an aider from a step you are standing on is impossible. WE steps are hard to use with one rotten shoulder. Should never play hockey.

Hats off to you Ontariofarmer. You figured it out, almost. I’m going to use 3 WE steps with one custom made Amsteel aider. But I’m making the “impossible to remove aider” possible.

Inspired by you guys. For me I think I may cut down some heavy muddy aerolites that I hate. They have a welded double step on the post so the post may be heavier than I want but the folding welded step is great. The standoff on that stick are super heavy too. So if I drill holes in the post and use the hard ware I still have a very packable stick but it will weigh a bit more. I got nothing to lose chopping up those muddy aero lites.. or I mean heavy weights. I hate those sticks... my first sticks. But the steps are great, the standoffs are solid... maybe I can make it 6 inches.

I have no doubt you will make it work. It’s funny because when I decided to go with a saddle, I thought for sure I was going to want to use LW or Muddy sticks. I realized I have been messing with those things for so long using regular stands, that I’d pretty much had enough of them. The climbing possibilities that opened up with a saddle are amazing. I’m having so much fun playing around with stepps and SRT techniques, I may never use a stick again.

Ontario, how much does one foot of 1/4” Amsteel weigh? And one foot of 1/8” Amsteel? You seem to be the go to guy for everything weight related.

If I was younger I might try SRT or stepps. Or if I had never played hockey.... Part of the fun of hunting is trying to be a better hunter... I am still learning and trying to be more mobile, lighter , higher, safer.... And trying to get the big bucks... the end game.

I guess that is why I like farming. Change and learning never end. It makes things interesting.

I intend to try this with a double metal hook to hang the aider and then attach paracord lanyard to pull it up. I just haven’t figured out how to reattach it on the way down.
