tethrd ess saddle review

Well, first climb in the Tethrd ESS. Photo is a ground level hang. Had to see how it works. I sat in a Phantom last season. Many LONG sits (12-13 hours) and was bit sore initially. This 2 panel design has a good feel. Much different and will take some time to adjust. From the get-go, I will modify the bridge to an adjustable Amsteel just like the Phantom has. I am a 1 stick climber and first climb was... ehhh.. less comfortable than I was in the Phantom only because I had both panels overlapped. I think I will try again with a bit of spread for more of a seat when moving the stick. The quality is far better than expected as far as the stitching. I saw a review that was critical of this point. Mine has better stitching than the Phantom I bought last year. I hope to post more info as I have more sit-time. Definitely worth the money. My 2 cents.
Nice work John and folks at Tethrd!

That does not look comfortable.

You might be surprised! If you have the chance to sit in one, I recommend it! Again, I have only sat in Phantom. However, most of my hunts were full days.. 12-13 hours.

I tried the recon which is very similar to this saddle.
treehopper did a great job for a cheaper end saddle.
i think it is a great starter saddle for a beginner.
the tethered es double is most likley a step up from the recon.
Reason i say is i doubt Johnny E would have junk with his name on it.
the thing is i hated with a 2 panel is the outer panel would sag on me from having no butt.

The ESS is VERY GOOD quality! Mine came with 2 clips to hold the panels together. I just need to play with them to figure out how to separate the panels while hanging. First try was a bit tough. Just need some practice!

Rookie45,
Did they rubber coat the metal bridge ring and can you shoot a pic of the clip position that hold up the lower panel?
If you look @ that latitude line they have G hooks with a spring keeper. I have not called them yet nor found that clip they use on the internet.. I have a new recon and want the spring clips on my saddle

Rings are not rubber coated. Maybe powder coated or painted.. They DO allow the ability to slide very easily. Which I like more than worrying about the clanking. They only clank when you are not wearing it.

I am not certain I am using these clips correctly. If not, someone help me here..

Clips appear to be upside down. They're intended to keep the outer panel from sliding down when walking in. I haven't needed them on the recon because the belt pulls on both panels and keeps them tight.

Nutterbuster,

I am probably not going to use these. The panels stay together just fine with the belt snug. I don't walk in wearing my saddle. Thank you for pointing that out. Didn't seem right!

Rookie45,
Thanks for the pics... When I order my repel rope from Dan-o he has some clips there I may try. Attached are the G Hooks on the left that are the idea that I'm trying to find on-line. I want them just like our current hook but with the gate keeper. Like I said if I cant find them I'll call Latitude..

I bought some of this g-clips with spring off of Etsy. Bought a 4 pack for like $8 with shipping. If you can’t find them let me know and I’ll look for the invoice. I personally girth hitch my lineman’s and crank it down when walking in. These keep my recon up better than any other option I’ve tried.
