Teufelberger resc tech

Which brand of the ropes is more plyable? I'm trying to get started one sticking and rappelling out of the tree so I want the rope with the best ability to go into a small dump pouch. Is there a difference in this feature at all?

@Old Man Hunter - great question. I just took out my tether & lineman belt sets. One is Sterling Oplux, the other is Teufelberger Rescue Tech. Both are 8mm ropes that I purchased from DanO's Eastern Woods Outdoors. I handled them both extensively and experimented with winding them up and packing them a few different ways. I also examined the "hand" of the ropes (how pliable they are) and how much of a bend radius they have when you fold them over a carabiner or wind them up like a coil spring.

There's no measurable difference in the radius of the bends or coils, and IMO, I don't think there's any difference in how pliable these two rope products are or how well they compress when you pack them down in a pouch or pocket. They look almost identical in appearance, too. The price per foot is identical. The only significant difference is that the Teufelberger Rescue Tech has a 20% higher minimum breaking strength than the Sterling Oplux.

Interesting that the Resc Tech gets sold/labeled as an 8mm accessory cord (with no elongation spec) vs. OpLux sold as a rope (with a specified elongation).

I believe that is an error on their website. It is definitely not accessory cord. It is rescue rope which is the same use as Oplux. It is a new product and I think they don't have that listed correctly.

Yeah I mostly wanted elongation data and they don't have it published. When are you expecting another batch?

Dang it! I was on the eastern woods outdoors site 8/28 and had enough Resc Tech in my cart to make a tether and linemans from it but my birthday was 9/1 and I had EWO gift cards on my birthday list. Was on vacation this whole time and just got back, went on to order and its sold out.

I just made an adjustable bridge out of the Tech. I couldn’t tell a difference between it and my linesman Oplux. I used TRC in a Prusik knot that used double fisherman’s for continuous loop. Seems solid. Anyone have issues with it for a bridge that I’m not thinking about?

I was trying to patiently wait for Eastern to be back in stock but I couldn’t wait any longer so I bought some oplux from rwrope

Hey! I know this was from awhile ago, but I'm curious: where did you find splicing instructions for it? Also: Was it the Rescue Tech or the Oplux?

resch tech. I found a video on YouTube for a double braid. After doing it though, I wouldn't waste my time. Figure 8 knot is more plausible @parsnip

Got it. I’ve spliced a tight double braid a bunch of times before (Sirius reep schnur) and found it was a pia and at the same time very satisfying... was it just difficult or you didn’t like the results?

Both. I worked the eye to pull the buried end in for almost an hour. And it made the splice very stiff. I had emailed teufelberger and they told me it's not recommended but also not impossible. Reason being: they used some heavy duty winching processes to set the eye.. I wrote back with a finished eye pic and the customer service couldn't believe I even got it by hand. Like I mentioned before, not worth it. The knots are small and easy to untie and retie but it's also not impossible.

Just throwing this out there - I think some guys did testing on hand spliced Oplux and it tested well below the 85% threshold. Don't have that thread handy but might want to do a quick search on spliced Oplux to see the actual results.

Got it. Helpful. Sounds like an 8 ok a bite or a fisherman’s onto a ring might be the way to go. Thanks!

I also found the double braid to be too much to try to stuff in the cover, the eye on the left. But found that the cover is very thin, most strength is probably in the dyneema part of the core. The polypropylene inner core is probably a filler to keep it round, light weight, and water resistant. It is the weakest of materials used for climbing ropes.
So first tried locked brummel and shorter bury, only because of limited cord supply. Did a test piece also with just recommended bury to see what the strength is in a pull test. The eye on the right is Oplux as a finished tether.

The Oplux has about four times as much polypropylene as Resc Tech in the center, might be one of the reasons for the strength difference.
