Well, I got the final materials I needed to add the waist belt to Wraptor #3. I sewed a loop into 1 inch webbing and girth hitched it to the D loops. This works pretty well and is neat and compact. It doesn't interfere with the 2-inch webbing either. I did a quick low level 2TC climb with it onto a ring of steps out back this morning. The waist belt works really well. I also sewed the tag ends of the webbing so it cannot work its way back through the tri glides or buckles.

Thought to put it on a scale today. Not bad considering the D rings and tri glides are steel. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. I hope to get some hunts out of it soon.

Just curious to hear from some of the OGs that constructed a Wraptor back in the day if it felt like the ESS or if it felt better/more adjustable? I was bored & in the mood to DIY so I was taking my ESS apart to play with & realized that it was all one piece of webbing sewn together & not 2 separate panels. Just wondering if the 2 versions of the saddle still felt basically the same or if there was a different in comfort...

More of a personal preference, but when I first got into doing it, I and my crew liked the separate loops better than the original, it just felt a touch more comfortable to us, but didn’t lay on the round rings as cleanly

I made a wraptor first. Then made an ESS clone last year. I preferred the ESS. Can’t get rid of my wraptor though lol

I made 2 with the double loops and one as a continuous loop and I really can't tell too much difference. I don't have an ESS but I do have a Recon.

I made a Wraptor last season. I found that I like the set length of the bottom loop, but I didn't like the top loop, so I am using a single strap with a cobra buckle and modified lineman's loops.

I thought I'd update and revive this thread a little bit. I killed a 7 point the other day out of my Wraptor saddle (#3) I made last year. I did a 9 1/2 hour sit in it and was very comfortable (for a 9 and a half hour sit, lol). This is the one with the continuous loop. I really like this saddle and plan to use it a good bit more this season.

Lol, this one is made for a 30 inch waist. However, I would not feel comfortable making one for someone else to use. I will take my own risks, but I would not be able to sleep knowing anyone else was using one of mine. That said, I have no doubt it is plenty strong, and I could probably pull a truck out of a ditch with it.

I'd be glad to give you the dimensions and parts list though. The whole process of building it is laid out in the thread. Learning to sew is the hard part, and you might could find a professional company to do that.

Fair points. My wife can sew but hates to. I’d obviously want all the threading to be as strong as possible. That’s what I really like about your design, it looks incredibly strong.

If she has a heavy duty machine you might be able to talk her into sewing it. You can get heavy duty threat from Sailrite and there are formulas for how many stitches per inch you need.

So, I have been away for awhile, but want do build a 4th Wraptor, with tweaks. The last couple of years, I have still been messing with the saddle, but using my LWCG .5 more, some ground hunting, but I keep coming back to trying to get the saddle thing to work for me. a little background on what I use: 1) ROS with squirrel steps and ocb, they just don't bite quiet right, maybe i need to switch to a ratchet strap. 2) tether with a schwabisch hitch, and have tried a few other hitch's, going to finally breakdown and try a ropeman 1. shoot lefthanded, adn seem to have issues setting up properly, (lh due to eye issues, right handed)

So, this off season, I want to tweak a few things. (fix ros, maybe different steps to, not sure, switch to ropeman).

Now to the Wraptor, my
1) 1st one was like the original with the solid rings, 2 separate panels.
2) 2nd one was pretty much a continuous loop with the bent d-rings, comfortable,
3) 3rd is a latitude style.

Issues I have had on the last 2, if you add a dump pouch, and a doyles, it wants to flop around when walking in, and or drop down. with a waist belt pack, it gets tricky. So, I am looking to make a simple, yet fully dialed in one. lol, if there ever is one like that.

Has anyone really dialed this in? One of the things I did on my 2nd on, is with the spacers, I looped them around the bottom sling (top/bottom on the top set, same on the bottom set) so the slings could slide.

Other issues on 2nd one.
1) 2 sets of loops get tangled.
2) linesman loops are floppy, I know how to fix that with some rope inside.
3) what loop would you put belt onto, linesman loops on, molle webbing if you choose?

Also, Bwanna, I know you had another thread, But I cannot remember what it was, not Wraptor2? Any other helpful videos? I know there are some out there, just trying to dive back in.

Last year I made a continuous loop version with straight D rings. Put the sit panel on the outside so when you get to hunting height you just drop it under your butt. I used 2 inch plastic clips similar to latitude’s pre magnet saddles. The belt I made was essentially latitudes rope belt but using amsteel. It’s attached to the top panel. I can wear it in with a dump pouch on one side and roll pouch on the other with no issues at all.

This summer I made a pleated saddle out of cordura and have enjoyed it as well. Comfort still goes to the wraptor though.

Here is the pics from the original thread. There was third version after this that was never publicly shared due to potential sales opportunities. Some of that saddle design features made it into one that many on here are currently using.

I went back and made a new bridge for my Wraptor #3 the other day. Originally, I had the tubular webbing through two steel triglides from Eastern Woods Outdoors. I think they are 5000 pound rated. I took the tag ends and folded them over and sewed them back onto themselves to make a stopper and then I sewed the webbing to itself past where it went through the triglides so there was no way it could slip through. Picture below of me in the sling shows the sewn portion that had me a little nervous.

I hunted off that for a while but got to thinking that maybe the sewing through the webbing part that was actually the load bearing part of the bridge might have weakened it. Maybe it had, maybe it hadn't but it kept nagging at me. So, the other day I removed the original webbing bridge and replaced it with a new one and routed the webbing back through the buckle over top and back through and sewed a keeper fold over behind the buckle, eliminating the issue of the weight bearing portion of the bridge being sewn into.

This puts any doubts I have to bed. I have to say I really like this Wraptor sling. I've done several all-day sits out of it including the one back in November when I arrowed buck #2 for this season.

How would the way you had it sewed differ from a lineman's loop?

Good question. I was probably overthinking it but the only difference I can see is that a lineman's loop is not holding my full weight for hours at a time and is not being subjected to my full weight. If I lean back in a lineman's it is only getting part of my weight and my feet are taking the majority.

I decided to make another rendition of the Wraptor a few days ago. This is my fourth build. I ordered the seatbelt webbing, D rings and tubular webbing from Eastern Woods Outdoors. All they had was coyote brown in seat belt webbing but that is OK. I like the look of it. I sewed it up on my Singer 15-91.

This one is basically a slightly smaller loop version of the Tethrd ESS without any of the lineman's loops, leg straps, belt etc. It is just a very streamlined 2 panel saddle.

I made two independent loops, sewing both loops with a 2 inch overlap with a box X stitching. I then oriented the connection points where they would be centered and offset so that the connections would line up being sandwiched inside the upright spreaders. I then stitched the two loops together where they meet up at the D rings. This was a major improvement in managing the loops during production. I noted that both the Recon and ESS have these stitches connecting the loops at the D rings.

Anyway, it was a good build, and I am happy with how it turned out.
