Thermacell hanger

Hey folks,

Just wanted to share something I came up with to hang my thermacell. When I ordered it I assumed there would be a lanyard loop or belt clip or something to hang it from, but there's not. They sell a belt clip seperate, for around 6 bucks, and a holster for almost as much as I paid for the thermacell itself. Mine is the MR300.

So I broke out the calipers, and took some measurements, deciding to use the slots where the factory belt clip would go. Fired up tinkercad and the 3d printer and drew something up.

Took a few iterations, but I think I like version 3.1 the best, lol. The first one was very basic with just a flat plate with two holes, but it made the thermacell tip forward. The second one came up the back, with a big hole in the middle for airflow to the grates on the back, and then over the top. This one hung well, but was too much bulk.

The final version just comes off the sides, with a hole on each side for paracord. I had to make slight changes to the hole location, and rounded off the top of the arms, hence the .1 on version 3 lol.

I'm just in the learning phase with 3d cad but tinkercad is easy to use. I tried fusion 360 and can't even draw a box lol. I'm sure someone with more skill could make something prettier but this works for me. Will be field testing tomorrow morning!

Anyways, here it is.

That’s pretty slick. I love my thermacell and have used it every sit so far this season. I have the holster with the belt clip, but it’s always a nice puzzle to figure out where to put the danged thing given that I hunt ladders, pre set hang ons, hang and bangs, and from my pacsest. Seems like something I never consider til I’m set. Regardless, kudos for the innovation!

Nice work. My kid had like seven 3D printers in High school for the robotics program. They printed all their own parts. Thats pretty cool, well done. Ive never used one of those printers but have always thought of the possibilities.

That’s really cool! Would you ever consider making one for a small ish fee?

I might think about that. I'll have to see how it works, if it holds up, etc. I don't print with nylon, petg, or abs, which are the strongest materials to print with. I just use plain ole PLA or PLA+. I wouldn't want to make something for someone that's just going to break early on.

I also don't want to break any forum rules so I'd have to look into that as well.

Isn't the Thermocell supposed to be used horizontally? Never used one.

I've seen so many pictures of people with theirs hung up I think they're ok to use vertical. Honestly not sure either. This is my first one. Wasn't able to test today due to my hunting partner getting sick so hopefully next weekend I'll get to try it out.

That's cool I haven't tried that yet. I've got a taz 3d printer and use Autodesk Inventor at work for drawings gives me another goal.

Horizontal will put the most heat into the pad for more efficient vaporization, vertical is more streamlined for our application. I've propped mine up against the top of my backpack to be somewhere closer to horizontal before.
