thinking of getting a Doyle gear hoist

I have the summit gear hoist, it was on Amazon warehouse deal last year for 8$ . It's awesome, has webbing with a nite ize type attachment and a belt clip. Fits in a molle loop, and self winds like the Doyles. It's another option to look at, I won't leave home without it

I was wondering about that one. Is the weight comparable?

I've used a Lewis Strapper Gear Retriever for over 20 years and have never had it tangle up one time, takes less than 10 seconds to reel back up... But I don't think you can even buy one anymore unless you could find it on Ebay maybe. I am considering switching over to the Doyle gear hoist though...

Anyone know where to get the strap version? Can't seem to find anything but the rope style in stock online. I'd be willing to buy a used one also but can't post a wtb thread. I guess not enough posts yet?

This was the best addition to my set-up this year, HANDS DOWN! Sits in a zippered pocket in the bottom of my pack. I’m happy with the woven nylon as well.

Doyle's is heavy, bulky, and rattles when I walk. Used it on 1 hunt. Figure 8 paracord for me.

Strapped my Doyles to the back of my pack instead of inside. No rattle?
What happened is the last 30 yards I was so quiet, sneaking in to the “kill” tree. All of a sudden I cant step anymore forward. *** the Doyles strap is 30 feet away stuck in the thorns. I think Mass thorns are worse than all states. I did get it loose but geesh!!

Seems like my rope is always tangled but I am not real excited about dragging more gear - thoughts

They are amazing in my opinion. I'll never go back.

I just left it attached to the back of my backpack last year when I was running with my climber. This year I intend to be 100% saddle so I attached it to the back / middle of my saddle.

Just got a Doyle’s a couple weeks back. Bumping this thread for a great product. I used to just strap my bow to my pack on the climb so I didn’t think I needed it but it simplified everything so much. Can’t believe it took me so long to try.

I was hesitant to mount mine on my saddle due to the added weight so attached it to my fanny pack I take up in the tree instead. Works great so far. First thing I did was Stealth Strip that sucker. That black plastic was hideous and loud as heck.

Just a note. I"ve been using one for this season only. I should have bought one 10 years ago. If anyone is on the fence, just buy one. I slit a small hole in the bottom of the waterbottle holder pouches on eh side of one of my packs and threw it in. It has been 100% hassle free, I dont even take my pack off until I'm setup in the tree. Saves SOOO many hasles of the paracord I used to say was totally fine.

Did you use a grommet or anything to make the hole? Did you just poke a hole? Have you had any issues with the hole ripping?

I burned a hole in the bottom of my bag with a red hot bolt then installed a grommet. I have another bag with molly loops and just hung it on one of the lower loops.

Yep. I walk up to tree, clip my bow in, climb, set my gear hanger, haul my weapon up, hang it, and then hang my pack. So easy!

yup. literally that easy. It's also quiet letting out line when climbing, and doesnt sag so it doesnt catch twigs and stuff on the ground like a pile of p-cord does. Its a total no brainer. Of all the things I"ve bought and sold ove the last year or so, this was probably the best buy.

These are things you don't think about you just buy. I am actually going to buying 2 more just in case years down the road I cant find them any more.

I have found myself checking hallway up the tree to see if I hooked it up to my bow. Haha sometimes when I am back on the ground after the hunt I forget its attached because you don't fell or hear it because its so smooth. I will start walking around packing things up and grab the rope and it will hit me its still attached to the bow.
