thinking of getting a Doyle gear hoist

I have a Doyle’s rope hoist, it’s in the bottom of my pack. I have a hole with a grommet that it feeds out of ala @Nutterbuster I don’t even know it’s there. I can reach around, grab the attachment, put it on whatever, climb up or down and never have to worry about it. It’s awesome!

Exactly how I do it and one of the best convenience improvements I’ve ever made to my hunting setup.

I’m m not a weight weenie but I do like to minimize bulk and I debated for 2 seasons using the Doyle’s. I got one this year and I’d carry it if the weight doubled. Such a hassle free time saving upgrade.

Same as you guys.....i poked a hole and added a grommet to my pack. Works great. I liked it so much i modified my fanny pack the same way. I bought a expensive pack and didn't want to poke a hole in that one.....and it was kind of a pain untying it to switch it between packs. @DanO fleece pouch makes it simple to switch it between bags now

Doyle's (webbing)guys - I've tried a crank-up webbing pull up rope in the past...and the webbing was a clogging,twisting,stuck-gettin pain in the butt. Is the webbing version of doyle's better? Stiffer? Somehow non-crap?

I guess it's preference. I like the rope because I feel I can grip it better. No issues clogging or twisting. The only issue I have is I forget it's there and will walk away to do something and realize the bow is anchored to me. That's a good thing.

I was hesitant to mount mine on my saddle due to the added weight so attached it to my fanny pack I take up in the tree instead. Works great so far. First thing I did was Stealth Strip that sucker. That black plastic was hideous and loud as heck.
How did you attach to you’re fanny pack? Can you post a picture? Just bought one and debating different methods for attaching it. Thanks

Can someone show me how you run the Doyle’s hoist through your pack? I have mine on my saddle but the pack sounds interesting.

I have used one for a couple of seasons now .... if it breaks or whatever definitely would buy another one. I have it attached to the back of my saddle. Had to grind the clip down a bit to get it into the Molle loop. No big deal. I use it a lil differently, sit my bow at the bottom of the tree attach the Doyle’s and begin my climb. When done hunting I rappel down the tree so I use rappel rope to drop my bow. Then I attach the Doyle’s to a biner I use to pull my rappel rope out of the tree. It’s really nice not to carry parrcord to pull the rappel rope down. Every time I have used parrcord in a tree it always more trouble than I want to deal with.
The Doyle’s is a bit heavy but for me it’s a trade off ...... lil more weight and no tangles.

I rappelled down for the first time yesterday and this is exactly how I did it. However I don’t have a Doyle’s. When I moved into my office there was a retractable dog leash left on the porch and I just repurposed it. I clip it to the back of my saddle via a carabiner.

I can understand why they left the leash though; their dog died and they buried in the back yard along the tree line. Well, the house had a squirrel issue so I repurposed the dog’s grave as well.....

I patched the hole in the fascia where the squirrels were getting in and every time I kill one I lay it there by the cross and send a picture to the owner.

I switched from a crank up webbing style to the Doyle's webbing recently and have not had any twisting or jamming. The Doyle's webbing is thinner than my crank up style. Not sure if that's what keeps it from twisting or not.

I bought a grommet, took a bolt the size needed for the grommet, heated it up with a torch until red, put it thru the bag where I wanted it and melted it thru, then attached the grommet. The hoist is inside the bag the rope goes thru the grommet. Be careful not to let the rope spring into the hoist. I pulled out a length of line and tied a loose knot in the line until I was done doing what I was doing. I just got a Eberlestock X2 and it has molly loops that work out great also.

Field tested the Doyle's this evening, really like it vs the paracord. Bought a fleece pouch from DanO, should make it much more convenient to hang from my saddle. Obviously heavier but worth it not to have to deal with tangled rope in the dark.

Used one for first 3 hunts this year. Took it off my pack after that IMO too heavy.
