Thumb Release Question

I have a question for thumb release users. Do you gain draw length if or when you switched from wrist release to a thumb release? Looking to increase draw length but not wanting to waste money to find out that it doesn’t work.

Thanks
Kyle

Most of the time you gain ¼ in difference in your anchor point, but it shouldn't change your draw length.

This is due to the way the release is held and the length of the neck, or could be from a longer d loop. My d loop is longer to alleviate any twist in my string from a non rotating release head.

There's a lot of variables it could be, your best bet would be to bring it to a bow shop and tell them you would like them watch you shoot a few, see if they notice anything that may need adjusted. A good bow shop should be pretty cheap for them to at least watch you take a few shots

You may be able to bump up 1/2" if you're kinda in between, depends on how you currently set up and where you anchor. Certainly not going to do anything more significant than that.

Everyone has a natural draw length where their body is in anatomical alignment, that's where you should be shooting your bow. Your appropriate anchor is going to be a result of that position.

What is your goal with increasing draw length?

I plan on building up my draw weight this coming season, with an overall goal of increasing my arrow speed. I know that longer draw length = increase in speed. A buddy of mine shoots a thumb release and when he switched it increased his draw length. Thought if I could possibly do both I would have a larger gain. Wondering if anyone else had similar experience?

Current set up is Mathews Creed 27.5” @ 61lbs shooting 650 gr TAW. Thought I would mention that to let everyone know I am not some speed freak. Just looking to improve.

Bow fit and consistent anchor trumps a little gain in speed for me. I went to a thumb release following the lessons of John Dudley, starting with a tension release. So I suppose what I am saying is go with what gets you better shot placement and look for speed gains elsewhere.

That setup with appropriate head will consistently shoot through any critter in north america and most on the planet. I get it if you are not satisfied want more, it just simply isnt needed.

I switched to a thumb release to gain draw length - actually, I can't find a module to shorted my draw length, so switching to a thumb release got me better results with my habitual anchor point. I wound up switching back to my old release and taking a different anchor point, reaching behind my neck with my thumb instead of locking my thumb knuckle under my ear, behind my jaw.
