Tips using amsteel daisy chain on sticks

The other day my final stick popped off as I transitioned to my platform. Basically twisted horizontally and stayed in place. This is my second trip up with the daisy chains I made.

Is there any tips on placement of stick in relation to the rope level that helps it bite better? For reference I have cut LW with muddy standoffs.

I've tried letting some slack and have the rope far above the button, but I can't seem to find that solid connection I get with a cam buckle.

So its either my technique, the bark, the standoffs or the nature of amseel.

Try this.

R u pre-loading the stick? I normally just Wrap the tree with the daisy chain so that it looks either level or just slightly above the button, and then give the stick a tug downward to set the stick (get the standoffs to bite the tree). Also, make sure that the standoffs are in contact with the tree, if not this might be your issue, but if you are pre-loading the stick this will become evident because the stick won't set properly. Or maybe you are putting too much side pressure on the step when you are stepping up to the platform?? That's just a guess since i dont use a platform.

@iamcorey some guys have that problem and others don’t. To me the tighter the rope/strap is before you load it the more it pulls into the tree once weighted. Several guys have gone back to the straps after having similar issues.

I had that happen with the manufacturer strap on my helium. That’s part of what made me switch to using a 30’ tether/rappel rope. Easier to self rescue.

Since my stick is sort of part of my platform with a ROS I ratchet strap it to the tree at the top.
