Trad Guys.... Need broadhead recommendations

Dude, those look awesome. The old school looks like the old magnus also

Absolutely superb to deal with, A small company looking for more people to try them, They are also on facebook.
The quality is great sharp out of the packet gives a great bloodtrail with a nice cut, acurate as my target points and silent so I am glad I took the punt on them, hopefully I can bloody them on a black bear later this year, regards wayne

I have the two blade VPA’s. Nice, but not much blade edge. Super tough.

For the money.....Zwickey or ACE. ACE can be ordered in a single bevel if you really want them that way. I think they can also be purchased with no edge so you can make your own. ACE is often overlooked but excellent, economical quality.

Three blade.....Wensel Woodsman and be done. VPA is nice but the extra cost is significant.

I’ve been using grizzly’s 250gr for the last few years. Killed deer, hogs and bears. Cut throats look nice also.
Have you ever sharpened a single bevel head? It takes practice. May be a determining factor.
Shot VPAs also. They are good also.

I've narrowed it down to Grizzly and VPA "penetrators." I have never sharpened a single bevel broadhead but have sharpened a gazillion blades.... How is sharpening a single bevel more difficult than a double bevel?

They aren't difficult to sharpen IME.
What method do you use for double bevel? File? Stone? Lansky type jig?

File, if they're rough, followed by Stone. Usually just a Stone to touch them up. I've only sharpened two-blade heads for a friend. I always used replaceable blade BHs with my compound.

If you can hold the angle, then IMO, sharpening single bevs are actually easier than sharpening double bevs.
Like sharpening any edge, work one bevel until you form a perfect burr, the remove the burr...perfect edge.
The fact that you only have to deal with one bevel, the job is 50% easier. Still form the burr, and then remove it from the flat side.

I started doing them with a file and stones. It seemed like I had to take my time more and use lighter pressure than if I was flipping the bevel rolling the burr back and forth. I ended up getting a 1in belt sander and getting a leather belt for it to finish with. It’s a lot quicker. The grizzlys bevel out the pack it pretty raw. Needs lots of work. But that’s part of the reason they are cheap.

I get what you're saying now. Didn't think of it that way. I don't mind if they're rough outta the pack at all... I kinda look forward to putting that first good edge on em myself. I have a few belt Sanders and have used them all to sharpen knives and tools but I prefer the stones for my good blades. I also already have a small vice that can hold a 2 blade BH horizontal so I can hit it with the file/stones.

Thanks for the insight! I appreciate it.

The way I like to sharpen single bevel cutthroats is with diamond plates, course first to even the bevel then a fine,I carefully remove the burr and finish with piece of leather on a flat surface with a touch of green jewlers rouge they are razor sharp and the edge is mirror like. on the Kayugas there is a good video of how they use a file, so far I have only shot deer and fox with the Kayugas but i am impressed with the solid construction, to be fair I like the cutthroats but wanted to try the style of the kayuga or the larger simmons sharks but they didn't have a 150gr and all my inserts for my my arrows are all glued in and just wanted to try a replacement broad head without messing with my set up any more, I am loving the eastern trad arrows with the gold tip stainless inserts they are bomb proof

Any razor sharp broadhead that flies good, with good arrow placement, will kill any whitetail deer.
Could have said it any better. This is coming from a hunter who has put a dump truck load or critters down in his time. Trust what Mt. Womack says.

Thanks for all the input and recommendations guys. I just ordered a set of Zwicky Eskimo's from 3 Rivers. I figure for $20 I'll give em a shot. If I don't like them I'm only out $20. I'll still probably end up ordering a set of the Kayuga's to play with too at some point.

Thanks again.
