Hey fellow saddle hunters. I've had too many trail cameras stolen. I have been thinking about it for year and have never acted on it. I know a bunch of you guys are really handy out there and was wondering if any of you have made a DIY trail camera security box. It frustrates me that the trail camera companies either don't have a security box or if they do it's only specific to one trail camera or their own and is not universal. I'm looking to make a universal trail camera security box.

If anyone has pictures of one they made please post them and what you made it out of.

I was thinking of making it out of flat steel, rebar, master locks and metal chains so it is harder to steal.

My advice is hide them better. If somebody wants it, you wont stop them. A box with a couple lag screws inside might be best option, but the lock will be weak link. Throw a cable around it to make people think its held by cable. Yrs ago I built a home brew with hole thru the center and was going to weld automotive lugnut to a lagbolt with a piece of pipe shielding the nut. You would then need the lockable lugnut tool to remove it.

I agree. A thief is a resilient creature. He will get it if he wants it.

Very true!! 4 years ago I had four cams stolen from boxes. Now I make it harder and more of an inconvience for thieves by placing them high and cabling to the tree. If they want it they can work like hell getting them down.

Home brew will cost you more time and money than it's worth. Here's a link to a place that manufactures camera lock boxes (http://store.camlockbox.com/). I use 3.5" 5/16 lag bolts to secure to the tree and use a quality master lock with a shrouded shackle (http://www.masterlock.com/personal-use/product/185D). If they want to get my cameras, they're going to have to work for it! Haven't had one stolen since I started using this system.

You've had a problem with thieves, I've had problems with bears. I'm currently using bushnell trophycams with bear boxes. I can't tell you how many blackout pictures I have of bear fur. I do enough the closeup snouts though lol.

Mike that is awesome. Thanks for the pictures. Last weekend I made a demo out of paper and going to try and buy some steel and put it together. If I do I'll take some pictures.

I absolutely have problems with thrives. I've had 2 trail cameras stolen not this year but in years past and this year I'm only hunting public land so makes me even more nervous to put a camera out. Thanks for all the tips guys

Thanks Guys. We have a huge problem with thieves also. That's the main reason I started making my own security boxes and using the saddle to hunt.
