Tree spikes legal in Michigan for public land?

The only thing I would say to anyone interested in doing this is that it takes practice to get comfortable and effective. I also much prefer preset trees. I can use SRT pretty effectively in the early season but I struggle with it as it gets colder and my clothing starts to bulk up.

Have you tried using foot and knee ascenders together red? It's a game changer.

I did pick up a haas right before the season that I was playing with along with a rope wrench. I really liked the haas, but I realized that for our purposes I really don't need a rope wrench. So I just have to figure out how to rig it all up more effectively. Haven't needed to use SRT for the places I'm hunting this year so I'm saving it for the offseason.

Don't use a rope wrench either. If I need to descend I either switch to my petzl pirana or I just clip it in below my prusik to add friction in below the prusik so I can descend on it. But right now I'm using Yale bandit for my climbing line. Then 10mm beeline with a five wrap distel to my rope bridge that also has a footloop(Cheap Accessory cord) attached for my left foot. Then I'm using a Climbing Tech Foot ascender on my right foot. Works the same as the knee ascender on the left foot you just hike your left foot up when you slide your bridge prusik up. If you need to rest on the way up you just have a "little captain in you".

There's a video of me using it somewhere on the forums. It's pretty simple. I'll see if I have everything in the car and I'll take a picture at lunch or when I get home.

This is my distel hitch with a quick foot loop. I couldn't find the one I normally use. Which is a small figure8 loop on one side then a loop made using a blakes hitch on the other so I can cinch it down on my boot to keep my foot from coming out.

Here's a view of the setup in the hanging position.

Here's my emergency descent setup. If I needed to bad enough I don't even need the pirana but it keeps me from burning up my prusik. Would also work better with a slightly longer e2e.

I live in Michigan also and have asked the same question after searching everywhere for an answer. DNR officer responded that if it penetrates past the bark they are illegal on state land.

Yeah, I suspect so, but I emailed them a few days ago to respond with a legal reference if they aren't legal. Still nothing...

The State leases out the national forest to logging companies so they don't want spikes left in the trees to damage the loggers equipment.

Yeah, we are talking about tree spurs, I used the wrong terminology, so nothing that would be left in the tree.
