Tree Stand Packs

I've never been totally satisfied with any backpack. Perhaps it's because my accumulation of gear keeps changing. One thing I'm never without is this kit bag I picked up from Hill People Gear. It's so handy to have the smaller things you might need right there on your chest, such as a release, compass, pocket knife, etc.

I am glad you said pocket knife. I get a kick out of some of the knives deer hunters carry. Most of the time I carry a leatherman

Awesome thread. This is my first year saddle hunting so I’m not used to being able to carry a decent backpack on my shoulders. Trying to find the best pack to carry my Lone Wolf sticks and Tethrd Predator platform with my bow sling. For anyone that solo hunts public land, what’s the best way to pack an animal out? Break it down into a big pack or is there a better option when deep in the woods?

Looks like XOP picked up the old Game Plan Gear line. I currently have a game plan gear "full Rut" which I really like. It is now considered the "stryker" heres my full rut with a windwalker on it. Lots of really useful sized pockets and great strapping setup.windwalkerpack.jpg

I’m looking hard at the horn hunter g 2 daypack. I think by carrying two sticks on each side it should pack well and it’s not overly big to hang in a tree.

Can you post a pic of your sticks attached to your cabelas pack?

Here is the pack with 3 muddy pros with 3 step tubular webbing aiders on each. I pack them a little different than Braveheart in that I put them inside the pouch and they are held secure with only the two top buckles. Very fast to insert and buckle and unbuckle and remove. I bought the pioneer 1600 specifically for late season to pack layers but went back to this pack. I will use a combination of the bed roll straps on the bottom or just drape the clothes over the top and secure with the same two top buckles. This worked great. I’ve packed a mid weight jacket and vest on top and a mid weight set of bibs on the bottom. I have also packed the Sitka fanatic jacket and kelvin layer on top but had the bibs on because the legs fully unzip. It was in single digits. Keep in mind I’m not a big guy at 5’7” and 160 so a larger persons layers may take up more room but probably doable.
I’m contemplating building my own sticks at 24” so I may modify the pouch to extend farther down and lengthen the top straps or do something similar to what Braveheart does but I do like the ease of use with just the two top straps. You can’t pack much in the pouch with the sticks but I do get extra gloves, hat, two bottles of water and a pair of 8x42’s in a case if I want to. Anything else I want to carry goes in the external pockets. I like it this way. It keeps me from carrying unneeded gear. Hope this helps.

I received the Ghost yesterday. It appears to very well built. I had to lengthen the shoulder straps all the way out. The chest strap sits too high for me, I adjusted it as low as I could better, but it still too high. Oh well, is what is.

I need to get the straps for the Molle system. Plenty of pockets. I can easily get the Kestrel and steps in the main compatment.

Just dug this out...thought I had sold it. Had bought it for windwalker, buy was to small. This is going to be perfect for me. Game plan gear standback. Wraps tree and becomes seat back....will eliminate knee pads with a saddle ...2018-06-13 20.36.51.jpg 2018-06-13 20.37.27.jpg 2018-06-13 20.37.55.jpg 2018-06-13 20.38.34.jpg

The is Direct Action Ghost. The pack is not full. All I did attach was attach the sticks to the outside. You have Pals for your Molly gear on both side, the back of the pack and in between in case you remove the smaller satchel. Also down the shoulder straps and waist band.

Bigjoe, I was looking at the dragon egg as I was thinking the ghost maybe too big. Mainly looking to carry Xtra warm clothes, deer calls, WE steps, saddle, and possibly platform. Also would want to strap the bow/rifle to the back. Would it be too big for this or could it work?

Thanks

I was looking the dragon egg as well. However, being a big guy means I need a little extra space. When I saw the price on this as it is last years model. It was marked down to $99.00 + freight. So I ended up with the woodlands camo (which I wanted) and saved $50.00 on a new pack. The worst that happens is it take off the diddie bag.

I have an Easton Hinch that I use most of the time but if I need more room or have to strap stuff down I take my Go urban pack or badlands super day. I wish the go urban had the suspension of the badlands but both are very good packs

Thanks for the update bigjoe. I was on YouTube and saw a side by side comparison of the ghost and dragon egg. I think the dragon egg is going to fit my needs better.

I appreciate it, but the real thanks needs to go to @BassBoy & @flinginairos. They turned me onto both the Ghost & Dragon Egg.
