Brand new to Saddle hunting and I've tried to search this and can't find any direct answers. I happen to own several Tree Straps from HSS (4 of them I think) and many lifelines. So as I gather my knowledge and begin to hook up (just going to shoot/practice this year) is there any reason I can't use those ropes and P knots as part of my set up rather than buy new lineman's and tethers that "go with my saddle"?

I have to assume it is plenty safe but wondering if anyone has used them and experienced issues (not necessarily safety) such as something inconvenient or cumbersome. I am kicking around the rope man ascender but I consider that a separate issue compared to the use of ropes I own already.

Thanks guys!

I use the lifeline rope, just cut it down for my tether and linesman rope. Several other members pointed me towards this option. Its safe for a 400lb falling man. I wont come close to maxing out the rope at 175lbs.

If I was to turn one of my hss lifelines into a lineman’s belt, how short should cut the rope down to?
a good starting point is 8ft, you can always cut it shorter if you want.

and to answer OP's question yes the treestand safety lines are perfectly fine for our uses.

New to the saddle hunting world, don't have one yet. Trying to do all my homework before I purchase a saddle. Leaning towards the Trophyline Ambush Pro. I have a muddy fall harness and I bought one for my wife, so I have 2 lineman's belt's. could I use one of the lineman's belt's as my tether?

I have a HSS lineman’s tree strap. It’s like a seatbelt with an adjustable buckle and sewn loops on each end.

I prefer a rope lineman because it’s easier to move up and down the tree but I carry the HSS one as a backup but mainly as I use it for a back strap instead.

I put it behind my shoulders and connect it to the caribiner holding my bridge to my tether. It’s wide enough webbing that it’s comfortable in late fall clothing.

You can go shorter hard to lengthen. I would go the length you want your rope plus three feet for a figure 8 on a bight. Plus 1 for for a end of rope terminating figure 8. So for a 8 foot rope I would go 12 feet. You can cutdown later as desired.
