Tree suit noise mods..

Now I'm pretty sure it's worth the extra 60 Box the by the tethrd platform. Maybe it's because I'm like 245 pounds. Maybe it works for smaller guys better. But not me

Don’t give up on it yet. I’m going to bedline mine today and I will report back. If that doesn’t work THEN you can give up haha.

Yeah im not. I was just frustrated and sweating my butt off, it was like 92 degrees and super humid and i was tinkering outside..

Try the hex head sheet metal screws. The heads should bite into the tree and help keep it from moving. It's worth a shot before giving up on it...

Im just concerned that they wont allow me to return it after i put some holes in it

Would hockey tape or something a little more durable work to wrap the legs in? You could double or triple wrap it.

I put some heavy Velcro on last night, it helped but came off pretty quickly due to contact with the tree. However the glue remained on the the post and that seemed to help quiet it down. I think the bed liner spray might work or a thin coat of silicone calking on either side of the the serrations might work too. Waiting to see how the bed liner spray works before I try the silicone. Last resort will be the sheet metal screws.

Sheet metal screws might be worth a try but I am a little skeptical that it will solve it. A few screw heads are not going to completely eliminate all tube (squeaky paint) contact from the tree. I can pretty much assure that, with some types of bark like black walnut, the heads will bite into to soft bark and gouge-out a divot and the "bad" paint will be back in contact with the tree. I'm not saying it won't work...maybe I'm wrong. But I do consider that fix to be a higher impact approach. I always try the most minimal fix or modification before I start cutting, drilling, ripping stuff apart, etc.
I think the fix for this falls under 2 categories... change the existing texture, or add new texture.
Adding new texture is probably the least invasive approach. Maybe a wrap of a durable cordage around the tubes would fix it. If it doesn't work or doesn't hold up then the stand has not been altered yet. Maybe adhere stair tree strips to it. Again, if it doesn't work, the stand is still unaltered.
If adding texture doesn't work, then altering the existing texture might mean just roughing it up with sandpaper. At that point, the stand has been slightly altered but it still has it's original integrity.
To me, drilling, cutting, welding, etc may very well be the final solution but I'd try a more minimal approach 1st. You can always do more, but some things can't be undone.

This is my DIY out of steel, it makes no noise and solid as can be. How much of a difference and where could it be. I have had this on pine, oak, wild cherry, maple. Never no noise. Screenshot_20200811-120447.png

My thinking regarding the sheet metal screws is the heads should bite into the bark and help keep it from moving around which causes the noise.

Are there teeth on your diy version? I really think it is the texture of the paint. Im kind of glad my practice tree is the squeekiest tree ever.. lol. If i can make it silent on that bad boy, it will be silent in every tree.

I really believe its the paint. A new coat of different paint, or scuff the stock paint, or add stair tread...anything but that stock paint against the tree.

I keep thinking about the LWCG double-step sticks with the square-head bolts and wonder if these would be an option....

I am not a DIY guy but just a thought!

With a really good set on the tree, the stand is tight and there is still (almost) imperceptible movement and it can squeak. Steel is harder than bark and it will erode a hole where it contacts the bark an you will be back to square one.
Short of having a double strap attachment, ANY tree stand will have a certain amount of flex to some degree.
I dont think the cure is to fight the flex, the cure is to change the texture of the point of contact.

I dont have that exact 1 but a diy 1 i made of smooth tubing that made some noise....I wrapped the vertical posts in vet wrap and fixed the problem..... it'll wear off eventually but easy to replace and easi on the wallet

Yeah, but can you count on that it won't start squeaking during a prime hunt?
With ANY piece of gear...all fixes have to be bomb proof and permanent, and not just another thing to maintain that can fail at the most inopportune time.
